The 10 Best Brotherly Moments Between Ian & Lip

Ian and Lip arguably have the best sibling relationship on Shameless. Heartfelt moments like these are exactly why that's the case.

When it comes to the Gallagher family in Shameless, it is hard to find a better sibling relationship than the one between Lip and Ian. This makes a lot of sense, as they are the closest in age. These two share a ton of spectacular memories together, even if there is a lot of conflict along the way. When Fiona leaves the series, it seems as though the focus shifts to these two even more, which is a significant plus.

From the very beginning, these two grow up together in the Gallagher family and mature immensely. It is clear that they do care about their other siblings deeply, too, but they just do not share as many memorable moments with them as they do with one another. Some of the best parts of the entire series revolve around these two. As the series comes to a close, it will be awesome to see how their story completes. Until then though, reflecting on past events between them will suffice.

10 Ian Comes Out To Lip

Lip is the first to find out that Ian is gay and is very supportive in the process. Ian is nervous about him knowing, but Lip shows from the get-go that he is very supportive of it.

He jokes around about it at first, as that is the dynamic that the two have. However, it becomes more serious when he says that he never lets Ian down. It is a great moment, as it leads to Ian feeling more secure to tell the rest of the family.

9 They Fight And Make Up

Tension between the two brothers definitely is understandable, as they literally live in the same room. However, it hits an all-time high when the two decide to engage in fisticuffs under the train tracks.

It is a very intense fight, but the true brotherly moment occurs when the two quickly make up and agree to get a beer. It is a moment that shows that their sibling love for one another is unconditional.

8 Lip Consoles Ian After Mickey Gets Engaged

Ian experiences true heartbreak when Mickey's father forces him to marry Svetlana. It is apparent that at this stage of the series, Ian is in love with Mickey, so seeing him marry somebody out of his control is awful for him.

Ian finally opens up about all that happens to lead to this point, and Lip is there to console him. He recommends that Ian moves on to somebody who is better, as it is clear that the dynamic with Mickey is very unhealthy.

7 Lip Is There When Ian Is Hospitalized

One of the saddest moments of the series is when Ian checks himself into a mental health facility. It is apparent that he is struggling significantly from the symptoms of Bipolar disorder, so this is a necessity.

It is fantastic that he has the support of Lip and his family, as they are there when he makes this step. It also turns out to be one of the best things for Ian, as he receives the help that allows him to progress in the series.

6 Lip Goes On Train With Ian To Spy On Caleb

Ian is suspicious of Caleb cheating and opens up to Lip about it. From there, he tells Lip that he is going to spy on Caleb from afar. Lip ends up joining him on the train to be there for him.

This may not be the biggest of moments between the two, but it does show that Lip has concern for Ian in this situation. When Ian's suspicions turn out to be true, Lip is continuously there for him then, too.

5 Ian Being Lip's Character Witness

Lip sadly gets himself kicked out of college for damaging cars on campus. However, he has the opportunity to have a hearing to try to get reinstated. From there, he asks Ian to be his character witness.

Ian leaves work to help Lip and tells a truly outstanding story about Lip taking him to the train to find his lost GI Joe. Lip not only shows immense intelligence to navigate train maps at that age but the impact of his actions truly still resonates with Ian.

4 "Thanks For Being My Brother"

One of the most heartbreaking parts of the series is when Ian goes to jail. Before entering, he thanks Lip for being his brother in one of the sweetest moments between the two. They then understandably hug.

It truly displays how much Ian is appreciative of all that Lip has done for him and vise versa. Lip continues to be there for Ian, even after the crime he commits.

3 Lip Picking Ian Up From Prison

Thankfully Ian's prison sentence does not string out too long, as the two reunite in another great scene. Lip is the person who picks Ian up from prison and the two share a quick joke as if nothing bad has happened.

Then they hug yet again, and it is apparent that they are both so happy to see one another. It is definitely fitting that Lip is the one Ian sees first after getting out of prison, as their connection is the strongest.

2 Ian Meets Freddie

There is a party waiting for Ian when he arrives home. It is fitting, as parties at the Gallaghers are a very common occurrence throughout the series. Yet, when he arrives, it is clear that Ian wants to meet Lip's son, Freddie, most.

It is so sweet seeing Ian holding Freddie at the party, as it shows how he instantly loves him. The talk that the two have at the party about him and Tami is also particularly sweet, too.

1 Their Talk At Ian's Wedding

It is important to note that Lip is understandably Ian's best man at his wedding. Before sending Ian off, the two have a very heartfelt conversation, as they both say they love each other and hug.

However, it of course has a quick joke from Lip before this moment, which is certainly fitting with their dynamic. It is just so sweet seeing Lip that ecstatic about his brother getting married.
