The 10 Biggest Moves Of The 2022 NFL Off-Season
The 2022 NFL off-season is finally in the books. Pre-season is winding down and then before we know it, Week 1 will be here. 2022 figures to be one of the most unpredictable NFL campaigns in recent memory. The off-season was loaded with stunning and unexpected trades. We saw a plethora of future Hall of Famers and perennial Pro Bowlers swap teams, be it trade or free agency.

When you look at the AFC alone, 12 of the 16 teams have a realistic shot at going on a deep playoff run. The NFC is wide-wide open given the amount of talent that the premier clubs lost, namely the Green Bay Packers, Dallas Cowboys and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. As we await the start of Week 1, now's a good time to look back on the 10 biggest moves of the 2022 NFL off-season.
10 Chargers Pair Khalil Mack With Joey Bosa

An underachieving defense cost the Los Angeles Chargers a playoff spot last season, so GM Tom Telesco went to work in reshaping the defense.
Telesco signed All-Pro corner JC Jackson in free agency to boost the secondary. But his biggest move was landing future Hall of Famer and pass rushing specialist Khalil Mack via trade with the Chicago Bears. He should do wonders lining up across from fellow star pass rusher Joey Bosa. These two alone have combined for 134.5 sacks and 36 forced fumbles.
9 Colts Acquire Matt Ryan To Replace Carson Wentz

It took the Indianapolis Colts just one frustrating season to move on from Carson Wentz, whose lackluster play late in the season prevented the club from reaching the postseason. Wentz was traded to the Washington Commanders, and the Colts managed to snag Matt Ryan from the Atlanta Falcons for the low price of a third-round pick.
Ryan may not be in his prime anymore, but the 2016 MVP will be a giant upgrade over Wentz. His accuracy, smart decision-making and ability to avoid costly turnovers will make Ryan a tremendous fit in Frank Reich's offense. Having reigning rushing champion Jonathan Taylor will make things a lot easier for Matty Ice.
8 Bills Add Von Miller To League's Best Defense
The Buffalo Bills gave up the fewest yards and points last season, even though Mario Addison led the team with only seven sacks. Looking to upgrade the pass rush , Buffalo handed the two-time Super Bowl champion a six-year deal worth $120 million.
As we saw in the Los Angeles Rams' playoff run, Miller is still a one-man game-wrecker when his team needs it the most. He'll be a grade-A addition to a team that's widely regarded as the Super Bowl favorite.
7 Eagles Trade For AJ Brown
One of the major 2022 NFL Draft stunners saw the Tennessee Titans trade away star receiver AJ Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles for the No. 18 and No. 101 draft choices.

Brown joins a Philly offense led by rising superstar receiver DeVonta Smith, flashy running back Miles Sanders, stalwart tight end Dallas Goedert and dual-threat QB Jalen Hurts. Philly plays in the NFL's worst division, the NFC East, so the Brown trade could absolutely put them over the top and right back into title contention this upcoming year.
6 Travon Walker Goes First Overall
The Jacksonville Jaguars could have taken the safer pick in Aidan Hutchinson at first overall, but they instead gambled on Travon Walker's high upside.
The Georgia product is a boom-or-bust prospect, but his ceiling is very very high. He has put on quite a show in the preseason, but nobody will remember that if Walker doesn't produce in the meaningful games. This pick could make-or-break the Jaguars' long-term future in 2022, so stay tuned.
5 Dolphins Land Tyreek Hill From Chiefs
After failing to come to an agreement on an extension with the Kansas City Chiefs, Tyreek Hill was dealt to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for five draft picks, including 2022 first and second-rounders. Hill then signed a mammoth four-year extension worth $120 million.
Acquiring the Pro Bowl wideout leaves Tua Tagovailoa with no more excuses. He now has Hill and up-and-coming star Jaylen Waddle to throw the football too. Hill, the game's fastest receiver, can single-handedly take over games. Perhaps he's the final piece in Miami's quest to end a six-year playoff drought.
4 Green Bay Makes Aaron Rodgers A Packer For Life
Just 11 months after seeking a trade, Aaron Rodgers wound up signing a three-year contract extension worth $150.815 million. Last year's off-season drama is officially water under the bridge, and the Packers can feel safer knowing they have a four-time league MVP to build around long-term.

Green Bay would have had to rebuild if Rodgers remained firm on his trade request. But his decision to sign a three-year extension all but assures he'll finish his career where it started. And that means keeping Green Bay's title window wide open.
3 Texans Send Deshaun Watson To Cleveland
The Houston Texans traded disgruntled quarterback Deshaun Watson to the Cleveland Browns, who ultimately decided to end the Baker Mayfield era (he was subsequently traded to the Carolina Panthers).
Houston received a bundle of picks, including a trio of first-rounders, as part of the trade to accelerate their rebuild. The Browns then handed Watson a five-year contract worth $230 million. Every single cent of it is guaranteed, and the extension will surely increase the value of starting quarterbacks going forward. Texans GM Nick Caserio has plenty of draft capital to turn this around quickly.
2 Raiders Reunite Davante Adams With Derek Carr

Davante Adams turned down an extension from the Packers and was sent to the Las Vegas Raiders for 2022 first and second-round picks. The game's best wide receiver then signed a massive five-year pact worth $140 million.
Adams should have no problem putting all All-Pro numbers with Derek Carr. The two were teammates at Fresno State some years ago, after all. And Adams will get lots of help from star tight end Darren Waller, savvy slot receiver Hunter Renfrow and 1,000-yard back Josh Jacobs.
The Raiders went to the playoffs without Adams last year. Now they have the NFL's No. 1 receiver to hopefully push them a step further.
1 Broncos Acquire Russell Wilson From Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks suffered their first losing season in the Russell Wilson era last year, and it finally prompted GM John Schneider and head coach Pete Carroll to commence a rebuild. Wilson, the never-ending subject of trade rumors last year, was traded to the Denver Broncos in a blockbuster deal that should greatly change the NFL landscape.
Denver received Wilson and a 2022 fourth-rounder in exchange for their 2022 and 2023 firsts, a pair of seconds, a 2022 fifth plus defensive lineman Shelby Harris and standout tight end Noah Fant. It's a nice haul for Seattle to begin their rebuild, but the Broncos are the big winners here.
Denver has lacked suitable QB play ever since Peyton Manning retired in 2016. They now have a future Hall of Famer to lead an offense that features Jerry Jeudy, Javante Williams, Courtland Sutton, Melvin Gordon, KJ Hamler and Albert Okwuegbunam. With Wilson in the fold, the Broncos are a bonafide Super Bowl contender.
