The 10 Most Successful Tag Team Wrestlers In WCW History, Ranked By Championships

Many wrestling fans consider tag team action to be one of the best forms of professional wrestling. Some of the most exhilarating contests with the most dramatic moments are during tag team contests, which give them a special place in the hearts of fans worldwide. Despite some of the faults of World Championship Wrestling, they can always tout that they had a strong tag team division.

With highly skilled wrestlers dedicated to the division like Booker T and Scott Steiner who would eventually become world champions, there was often very strong talent vying for the WCW World Tag Team Championships. Some WCW talent even wound up winning the championships multiple times, making these stars some of the most decorated wrestlers of all time.

10 The Rock N' Roll Express (4 Reigns)

As one of the tag teams from the 1980s who are actually still competing today, Robert Gibson and Ricky Morton were once one of the hottest tag teams on WCW's roster. As 4-time winners of the Tag Team Championships under the Jim Crockett era, The Rock n' Roll Express maintained their popularity for many years. Whether or not they should still be competing is debatable, but they certainly cemented their place in history.

These days, Buff Bagwell is much more infamously known in the wrestling world for some of his poor performances in the ring - including his embarrassing WWE showing - but he can hang his enormous hat on some of his Tag Team Championship accomplishments. With five championships to his record, he is more of a decorated wrestler than fans often give him credit for.

8 Jay Youngblood (5 Reigns)

As someone who left the wrestling world far too early due to illness, fans of today may not recognize "Silver Streak" Jay Youngblood. Unfortunately, that means that they are missing out on knowing one of the better tag team competitors from the early era of Mid-Atlantic Wrestling (one of WCW's earlier names). Mostly known for his partnership with Ricky Steamboat - for which they won the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Tag Team of the Year award in 1983 - he was a highly decorated wrestler in the ring.

Long-time wrestling fans recognize that WCW's legacy stems from the National Wrestling Alliance, which gives the promotion a very deep history.

While later WCW fans do not recognize the name Paul Jones, he was a very accomplished wrestlers from their early days, who won the Tag Team Championships numerous times. His later years were spent managing, but he was a very formidable wrestler in his prime.

As the only original member of the nW0 to not win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, Scott Hall spent his time in the United States and Tag Team divisions through his WCW career. Mainly alongside Kevin Nash as The Outsiders, Hall became accomplished as a tag team wrestler. While many recall him as a singles competitor, Hall is among the most accomplished wrestlers from the division's history. Hall won the WCW World Tag Team Championship six times with Nash and once with The Giant.

5 The Minnesota Wrecking Crew (7 Reigns)

Depending on which era of wrestling that a fan watched in, they may know the Minnesota Wrestling Crew with a number of wrestlers. Comprised of the famous Anderson family, the team was a combination of either Lars, Gene or Ole Anderson, and if there is one thing that the Andersons were famous for, it is tag team wrestling.

Beginning as the first WCW Tag Team Champions in 1975, Lars and Gene Anderson began the legacy that would combine a total of seven tag team championships for almost 1,000 days in total.

4 The Steiners (7 Reigns)

Despite having two WWE Tag Team Championship reigns to their record, the Steiner Brothers were much better known for their run together in WCW. With innovative offence making them a must-see tag team of the era, they held the titles seven times together through the 1990s. Scott may have been able to transfer to the heavyweight division in his later career, but his most decorated success came from his tag team alongside his brother.

3 Ricky Steamboat (8 Reigns)

While Ricky Steamboat is certainly more well-known as a singles competitor, he was also a very established tag team wrestlers before, during and after his 5-star match career in WCW. Tag team wrestling is usually a foundation for a solid singles career, and Steamboat was certainly able to accomplish that.

Alongside his long-time partner Paul Youngblood, and shorted partnerships with Dustin Rhodes, Paul Jones and Shane Douglas, Steamboat amassed 8 championship reigns through his illustrious career.

2 Kevin Nash (9 Reigns)

Kevin Nash was mostly known as a World Heavyweight Championship contender through his career, but the first championship he won in WCW was the Tag Team Championship. Winning a total of nine championships - and six of them being with Scott Hall as The Outsiders - Nash was a very successful tag team competitor.

As established friends from their WWE run together, Nash and Hall joined WCW as "invaders" from WWE. The took WCW by storm as they created the New World Order, alongside Hulk Hogan, and ran the tag team division for many months at a time.

When it comes to tag team wrestling in WCW, look no further than Harlem Heat to find the most decorated wrestlers from the division. Booker T and Stevie Ray dominated the tag team division for multiple years, defeating the likes of Sting, Lex Luger and the Steiner Brothers for the championships.

By the time Booker T wound up in WWE for the rest of his career, his brother Stevie Ray had already retired. However, they were recognized for their 10 championship reigns together (and Booker with 11 in total) by being inducted in to the WWE Hall of Fame in 2019.
