Tony Khan Announces "AEW House Rules" Live Events

For decades, WWE has relied on house show events to strengthen their product and grow their fanbase between televised events. When AEW formed in 2019, it saw its shows limited to televised events, revolving around Wednesday Dynamites, the now and again live Rampage on Fridays, and its four annual Saturday pay-per-views. As the promotion continues to grow, the next evolution in their progression has come, with AEW President Tony Khan putting out a press release that announced the formation of "AEW House Rules", a limited live event series.

“As a lifelong fan of professional wrestling who grew up attending house shows, AEW House Rules is an exciting next step in our journey, giving fans a new level of access to top-tier professional wrestling,” Khan said. “We’re always looking for meaningful ways to engage with our fans, and AEW House Rules will be a great way for them to connect with our incredible talent and experience AEW in an intimate setting.”

“The extraordinary success of AEW changed the landscape of professional wrestling as a whole, not only by providing a fresh new product, but also by raising the bar in a manner that many deemed impossible a few years ago,” said Jeff Jarrett, AEW’s Director of Business Development. “Now as we expand to live house shows, fans can expect an innovative approach and get up close with the best talent in professional wrestling. In addition to satisfying the passions of diehard fans, we’re excited about creating new fans of all ages through these entertaining events.”

Are Untelevised Live Events A Good Idea For AEW?

Jon-Moxley-AEW

WWE has had mixed results with house shows over the years. Some prove to be highly successful while others end up in arenas that are only a quarter full. Even though there is a risk involved, it's time for AEW to grow, and this is a great way to do it. With critcisims of a bloated roster, it will give more talent a chance to perform in front of fans, while also taking AEW on the road to smaller cities that AEW and WWE don't usually go to.

"AEW House Rules" begins on March 18th, with their first event emanating from Troy, OH. Ohio's own Jon Moxley is already lined up to appear.
