When To Expect A Marvel's Spider-Man 2 PC Release Date Based On History

Spider-Man 2 is only available on PlayStation 5 right now, but it's possible to predict when that status will ultimately change for the better.

Summary

  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2 doesn't have a PC release date yet, but based on the history of Sony exclusives coming to PC, it's expected to happen.
  • Recent Insomniac Games releases like Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart took around two years to come to PC, suggesting a similar timeline for Spider-Man 2.
  • While it's unlikely that Spider-Man 2 will release on PC right after its initial launch, fans can expect a PC release in late 2024.

A PC release date hasn't yet been announced for Marvel's Spider-Man 2, but it's possible to take a look at some prior releases to figure out when it can be expected to cross over to the market. Major Xbox and PlayStation console exclusives getting PC ports has become something of a standard, but timed exclusivity or development priorities can still result in a long wait. Plenty of PlayStation 5 users have already leapt back into the web-slinging action that Insomniac first brought to the table on the PS4, making the anticipation for a PC release higher than ever.

Although there's technically no absolute guarantee that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will ultimately release on PC, the recent history of Sony exclusives and developer Insomniac Games' PlayStation titles makes it clear that there's no reason not to expect it. Both Marvel's Spider-Man and Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales eventually made it over, as did Insomniac's 2021 game, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. As Miles Morales and Rift Apart both came after Sony's 2019 acquisition of the company, and other flagship experiences from PlayStation Studios like God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn have followed similar paths.

Based on the recent pattern, a likely release date for Marvel's Spider-Man 2on PC would fall in the latter months of 2025, potentially in October or November. This two years and change schedule has its primary basis in the timing of ports for Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, as these two most recent works from Insomniac Games took roughly that long to come to PC. Miles Morales released for PlayStation systems in November 2020 before making its way to PC in November 2022, and Rift Apart followed up a June 2021 PS5 launch with a July 2023 PC appearance.

Spider-Man & Sony PC Ports Have Gotten Faster

Two years may not seem like a particularly fast turnaround, but it's actually much shorter than comparable release windows for some earlier PS4 titles getting ported. The first Marvel's Spider-Man didn't make the transition until almost four years after its initial launch on PS4, although the PS5 port that the PC version aligns with split the difference in release date nicely. God of War also took closer to four years, and Horizon Zero Dawn racked up three and a half. Horizon Forbidden West is expected to adhere to the two-year formula with a PC release in early 2024, acting as another piece of evidence for an overall reduction in time.

Anyone who wants to swing around New York within the next year might be best advised to pick up a PS5 or revisit the preceding games, as a PC release of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is unlikely to follow directly on the heels of its initial launch. Luckily, there's no reason to believe that the wait should be much more than a couple of years, so it shouldn't be a true long haul like some past releases have been. Marvel's Spider-Man 2's likely late 2024 PC release could bring the game to a whole new audience that will likely be eagerly anticipating the new adventures of Peter and Miles.
