The classic way of finding rare candies is by searching diligently throughout the map. These items are cleverly hidden in every installment of the franchise and provide a much-needed boost to a Pokemon's level. This method of hiding and finding rare candies is maintained in Sword and Shield.

The first location that a rare candy can be found is in the town of Wedgehurst. This candy is housed inside of the tree beside the research facility The tree in question is to the right of the building and can be claimed by pressing the interaction button.

The second location is on Route 4 in between the Galar Mine and Turffield. This particular candy is found in a rock beside the poke kid trainer. This trainer will be wearing a Pikachu costume so he will be hard to miss.

The third candy will be found in the city of Hammerlocke. Finding this candy requires players to head to the church found on the upper level of the city. Once at the church players will find a Pokeball statue and the candy in question will be found behind this statue.

The fourth candy is found on Route 6 in between Hammerlocke and Stow-on-Side. This candy is found on a platform near the pond in the area. It will be found in the same area that players found the TM Steel Wing. So once you find this TM you will know you are on the right trail.

There are two candies to be found in the City of Wyndon. There will be one candy found in the middle section of the Park, inside of the fenced area. The second candy will be found near the entrance of the Rose Tower.

These are all the physical locations of every rare candy inside of Pokemon Sword and Shield. However, there are unlike other titles in the series, there are multiple ways to discover these coveted items.

Getting Rare Candies from Max Raid Battles in Pokemon Sword and Shield

Pokemon Sword Shield Max Raid Battles

One of the new features introduced into Sword and Shield is the inclusion of Max Raid battles. These cooperative battles revolve around a team of players defeating a single powerful Dynamaxed Pokemon. These battles are fairly difficult and require solid teamwork but provide excellent rewards in return.

Max Raid battles oftentimes provide rare candies as rewards for completing the challenge. However, it is important to know the two different Max Raid battle types. Normal Max Raid battles will be depicted with a single red light shooting from a given den. These standard battles tend to provide average rewards for defeating them. Depending on the level of the Pokemon will affect what type of Exp candies they provide and if they will provide any rare candies.

Max Raid battles that emit a purple light, are more difficult encounters with rarer Pokemon. These will test a trainer's skill to the absolute maximum and will force a group of trainers to collaborate effectively or risk failure. These harder battles are more prone to providing rare candies as their rewards.

Buying rare candies is a luxury saved for players who have already defeated the Elite Four and completed the game's story.

This method is as simple as it sounds. For the cost of 20 BP, a player can purchase a rare candy. Although this method is mainly reserved for players developing a solid competitive party, given its late-game requirements.

So if you are a player looking to develop a solid team for competing against good players this is certainly a viable option.

As players rank up they will be rewarded with a varying amount of rare candies. In beginner rank, they will only be provided a single candy. When they rank up to Pokeball rank they will provide 2 rare candies. The Great Ball rank provides 3 rare candies. The Ultra Ball rank will yield 5 rare candies. And finally, the Master Ball rank provides 10 rare candies.

Although a difficult method to utilize, this system rewards the player for hard work and determination through the coveted item. It also provides a solid incentive to play the game after completing the main story and rewards skillful players to the fullest.
