Where To Watch The Matrix Movies Online Before Resurrections
The Matrix franchise is one of the most famous in sci-fi history, and here's where the first three movies can be watched online before Resurrections.
Prior to The Matrix Resurrections arriving in theaters this holiday season, here's where viewers can watch the first three Matrix movies online. Keanu Reeves' iconic character Neo, aka "The One", has often seemed like a messianic figure within his universe, so in a way, it's quite appropriate that The Matrix Resurrections makes its highly anticipated arrival right before Christmas. It has been nearly 20 years since The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions both hit theaters in 2003, and for most of that time many were convinced another entry in the film franchise would never be made. Yet, the world of the Matrix was always there, waiting to be re-entered.
That's exactly what director/co-writer Lana Wachowski eventually decided to do, albeit without her sister Lily at her side this time around. As divisive as both prior Matrix sequels were, it's fair to say that the expectations and hype going into The Matrix Resurrections are still high, with those who loved the original movie hoping for the franchise to be redeemed. Back along for the ride are Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Ann Moss, reprising Neo and Trinity, respectively, although Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is taking over as Morpheus.
Considering how dense all three prior Matrix movies are, it's a good idea for anyone planning on seeing The Matrix Resurrections to revisit them. That even goes for the ones they might be iffy on, as it's doubtful Lana Wachowski is ignoring them. With that in mind, here's where The Matrix, Reloaded, and Revolutions, can be watched online in the lead up to the new installment.
The Matrix Movies Are Streaming On Hulu & HBO Max
For those looking to re-watch all three Matrix movies before they see Resurrections, there are luckily two convenient ways to stream all three at no extra cost, provided one subscribes to the services in question. Being Warner Bros. movies, it's no surprise that the Matrix trilogy is available to stream on HBO Max. What is surprising is that they're also all streamable on the Disney-owned service Hulu. However, HBO Max is the preferable option for two reasons. Firstly, HBO Max also offers The Animatrix, which expands on the Matrix universe, is considered canon, and is also very much worth watching. The big trump card for HBO Max is that subscribers will also get day-and-date streaming access to The Matrix Resurrections itself.
Where You Can Rent & Buy The Matrix Movies Online
Those who don't subscribe to Hulu or HBO Max are of course not out of luck when it comes to watching the Matrix movies online before The Matrix Resurrections, but will have to put out some money to do so. All three live-action Matrix movies are available for digital rental or purchase at all major retailers in HD, including iTunes, Amazon Video, Google Play, YouTube, Vudu, the Microsoft Store, and more. Prices can differ slightly based on service, but the average rental price is $3.99, while the average purchase price is $14.99. Most stores also offer 4k quality, at the same price as HD. As for The Animatrix, that isn't available at all in 4k, but can be rented or bought in HD for a lower average price of $1.99 to rent and $4.99 to buy.
