A collaboration between Netflix and Adam Sandler's Happy Madison Productions, The Out-Laws is set in the fictional Philadelphia town of Oakleigh, but the movie wasn't actually filmed in Philadelphia. The Out-Laws has an all-star cast including Adam DeVine, Nina Dobrev, Pierce Brosnan, and Ellen Barkin, The Out-Laws follows Owen (DeVine) as the bank he manages is robbed in the lead-up to his wedding to Parker (Dobrev) and all signs point to her mysterious parents (Brosnan and Barkin) being the culprits.

The Out-Laws was released on Netflix on July 7th. With an engaging premise, blending elements of comedy films and heist movies, director Tyler Spindel delivers a chaotic action comedy with help from writers Evan Turner and Ben Zazove as well as a charming lead performance from DeVine. While set in a fictional Philadelphia town, The Out-Laws was actually filmed in and around the city now being dubbed as "The Hollywood of the South."

Atlanta, Georgia

The Out-Laws was almost entirely shot in Atlanta, Georgia. The majority of the film was shot on location, so eagle-eyed Atlanta locals may be able to recognize various landmarks throughout the film, including Bank of America Plaza, Centennial Olympic Park, and the Fox Theater. There is also a goof mid-way through The Out-Laws that gives away its filming location. In a scene where Owen tries to tail Billy and Lilly, observant viewers may notice a Georgia SR 10 route marker. The car chase also comes to a halt at an intersection with the sign Ralph McGill Blvd, a real Atlanta boulevard.

When it comes to specific locations, Victory Union Bank, the first bank that Owen and his future in-laws try to rob, was a set constructed in an empty store at Northeast Plaza in Brookhaven, Atlanta. The heated discussion Owen, Billy, and Lilly have following the unsuccessful raid was filmed at the picturesque Sweetwater Creek State Park, a popular exterior filming location for productions stationed in Atlanta. Meanwhile, the trio's more successful heist of the Atlas Reserve Bank headquarters was filmed in Downtown Atlanta, at 55 Park Place NE.

The impressive Mediterranean-style mansion owned by Rehan Zakaryan in the movie is actually located in the exclusive Buckhead neighborhood of Atlanta. The mansion serves as the location for one of the film's most memorable scenes, as Owen has to contend with a pack of small but troublesome dogs while he learns the truth about his future in-laws.

Tucker, Georgia

As well as in and around the Metro Atlanta area, The Out-Laws was also partly filmed in the city of Tucker, Georgia. Tucker's Main Street, a picturesque road full of small-town charm, serves as the fictional Oakleigh's own high street. The city of Tucker welcomed the cast and crew of The Out-Laws for a whole week of filming, becoming the largest film production Tucker has seen in the city's history (per tuckerga.gov). The most notable location on Main Street is Vegan Divas, a fictional bakery Owen and Parker commission to make their wedding cake.

The bakery serves as the backdrop for a pivotal moment in the film, as it's the place where Parker learns the truth about her parents and their past. Vegan Divas, described by Rehan as a "lovely little bakery" mere seconds before she snatches Parker and holds everyone inside hostage, was constructed in a vacant store on Tucker's Main Street. The set, featuring stylish decor and decadent cakes, is ultimately destroyed when a firefight breaks out between FBI agent Oldham and Rehan's gun-wielding henchmen.

The entirety of The Out-Laws takes place in the build-up to an important event: Owen and Parker's wedding. The film opens with shots of the elaborate seating plan the couple has mapped out using toys and figurines used to represent the guests. At the end of the film, viewers get to see the plan come to fruition as they witness moments from the happy couple's special day. These wedding scenes were filmed at the Bouckaert Farm in Fairburn, Georgia. Bouckaert is an impressive 8,000-acre property, where real-life couples can also tie the knot (per bouckaertfarm.com).

Studio Sets

The graveyard scene in The Out-Laws

While The Out-Laws was primarily shot on location, some key scenes were actually filmed on specially built sets. This includes the car chase when Owen, Billy, and Lilly flee the scene after their attempt to rob the Victory Union Bank. Owen, dressed as Shrek, drives their armored vehicle through a graveyard, pursued by cop cars, which results in tons of graves being destroyed in the chase. Of course, a real cemetery couldn't be used for this, so the scene was reportedly filmed using a specifically constructed set with some CGI elements. DeVine states, "No actual gravestones were harmed in the making of this movie" (via USA Today).
