Why Drew McIntyre Needs To Beat Seth Rollins At WWE Crown Jewel

Highlights

  • McIntyre's stock as a main-event performer has declined since losing the Universal Championship and he needs a win at Crown Jewel to regain credibility.
  • McIntyre's previous WWE Championship reigns during the COVID-19 era are overlooked due to lack of fan attendance, and he needs a significant victory to remind fans of his dominance.
  • Winning the World Heavyweight Championship from Rollins is crucial for McIntyre's future in WWE and could provide a fresh direction for Monday Night Raw, while allowing Rollins to recover from his back injury.

The upcoming Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia features the anticipated match between Seth "Freakin" Rollins and Drew McIntyre for the World Heavyweight Championship. McIntyre has been mostly out of the world title picture for quite some time now. Ever since he lost to Roman Reigns for the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship at last year's Clash at the Castle, his stock as a main-event performer has taken a downward spiral, especially compared to when he was arguably the top babyface in WWE during the company's COVID-19 era. If WWE wishes to push McIntyre as a credible main-event performer again, especially as it looks as if he may be turning heel soon, it would make sense for him to dethrone Seth Rollins at Crown Jewel.

The Rise And Fall Of Drew McIntyre As WWE Champion

Drew McIntyre WWE Champion 2nd Reign

In 2020, Drew McIntyre rose to the top of WWE stardom when he won the Royal Rumble match and defeated Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 36. After that, he dominated the WWE Championship scene for over a year and became a two-time WWE Champion, defeating the likes of Randy Orton, AJ Styles, Bobby Lashley, and many more top superstars on the Raw brand.

However, much of McIntyre's WWE Championship run in 2020 and early 2021 is forgotten by many fans, considering his dominance took place during WWE's COVID-19 era when there were no fans in attendance. In fact, Drew McIntyre's win over Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 36 is one of the most forgettable main-event matches in WrestleMania history due to the fact the match took place at the Performance Center.

Since WWE started allowing fans back into arenas in late 2021, McIntyre has mostly been out of the WWE Championship scene, as facing Happy Corbin at WrestleMania 38 especially showcased his downfall as a top babyface in the company. And even though he was slowly getting back into the WWE Championship picture when he challenged Roman Reigns at the Clash at the Castle, things took a turn for the worst when he failed to defeat The Tribal Chief in one of the biggest matches of his in-ring career.

Why Drew McIntyre Must Beat Seth Rollins At Crown Jewel

After Drew McIntyre got drafted back to the Raw brand in the most recent WWE Draft, other than challenging Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship at this year's SummerSlam, he hasn't gotten involved in anything of much importance. With rumors circulating that McIntyre isn't happy with his creative direction and was undecided whether he wanted to stick around with the company in the long run, it might indicate that his days with WWE are numbered.

However, with McIntyre challenging reigning World Heavyweight Champion Seth "Freakin" Rollins for the belt at the upcoming Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia, it's the perfect opportunity for him to make things right for his WWE career. As the build-up around Drew McIntyre's rivalry revolves around moving past The Bloodline and becoming world champion once again, for fans to take him seriously moving forward, he must win the World Heavyweight Championship from Seth Rollins.

Considering that Drew McIntyre hasn't won a PPV match since defeating Karrion Kross in a Steel Cage match at last year's Crown Jewel, the only way for him to move past losing to Roman Reigns and The Bloodline is by getting the richest prize on the Raw brand. Doing so probably wouldn't affect Seth Rollins' appeal to the fans, considering he's held the World Heavyweight Championship belt for almost half a year and is still one of the most popular WWE superstars in the company.

Drew McIntyre may not be anywhere near the same level as he once was when he first won the WWE Championship in 2020, but one can't deny he's still a valuable asset for WWE to have on the active roster. Someone who has the look of a professional wrestler and could deliver a classic match with just about anyone, all Drew McIntyre needs is good creative booking to back up his character. Winning the World Heavyweight Championship would do him wonders, while keeping the creative direction of Monday Night Raw fresh and allowing Seth Rollins to do take a much-needed break to nurse his lingering back injury. If McIntyre loses again, his WWE career may never recover from yet another failure.
