Why Mike Berk Won't Apologize For Offensive Posts

Fans were outraged when Mike Berk's offensive IG activity was exposed, but the 90 Day Fiancé star isn't getting pressure from TLC to seek forgiveness.

New 90 Day Fiancé franchise star Mike Berk received criticism from viewers for his offensive social media posts, but there are several reasons why fans are unlikely to get an apology from Mike any time soon. The New York native made a name for himself on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days season 5, which chronicled his relationship with Ximena Morales. The couple’s relationship was like a train wreck that viewers couldn’t look away from, and Mike and Ximena were one of the most compelling couples in season 5.

Though Mike came across as a lovable nerd at the beginning of season 5, over time he gained villain status among fans for the way he treated Ximena. After getting dumped by Ximena, Mike tried to frame her as a scammer who was only interested in him for his money. However, viewers weren’t buying it because it became clear that Mike and Ximena’s relationship was always transactional. But it wasn’t just Mike’s on-screen behavior that angered fans. He came under fire after racially-insensitive and offensive Instagram posts from his past were uncovered. Scores of viewers called for Mike to be booted from the franchise, as his season 5 castmate Alina Kozhevnikova was. Despite the backlash Mike received, neither he nor the network have commented on the controversy.

When Alina was busted by fans for her own racist social media content, she posted several responses, including a lengthy YouTube video where she admitted her mistakes and begged for forgiveness. But viewers should expect no such apology from Mike. The primary reason why he probably won’t ever address his offensive posts is because the 90 Day Fiancé franchise star doesn’t need to. Though many fans would love to see Mike fired, TLC has taken no steps to eject Mike from the franchise. Mike has faced no real consequences for his actions, so he likely feels emboldened to ignore the controversy all together. There’s no need for him to apologize to avoid repercussions, so why would he?

Viewers were furious at Alina after her old posts came to light, and the backlash actually prompted the network to take action. Alina likely shared her numerous apologies as a way to diffuse the hate she was getting, but at least she seemed contrite. Mike sidestepped his 90 Day Fiancé controversy completely, and doesn’t appear to have any regrets. Many fans consider TLC’s differing response to both stars as hypocritical, and it could be because the network sees a future for Mike in the franchise that it didn’t for Alina. Mike is an American cast member who was a part of a highly-compelling couple, so it’s possible that TLC was eager to cast him in other shows.

Since Before the 90 Days season 5 ended, there are rumors that Mike is currently filming another show in the 90 Day Fiancé franchise. There’s a high possibility that Mike will be cast on 90 Day: The Single Life season 3, despite viewers’ protests. With the complete lack of consequences for his actions, it’s a near certainty that Mike will never feel the need to address or apologize for the offensive social media activity that got him into hot water with 90 Day Fiancé fans.
