Worst Case Booking Scenarios For AEW Revolution 2024

AEW Revolution is fast approaching, and the card for AEW’s first PPV event of 2024 is shaping up to be a very big one. After a disappointing Worlds End show at the back end of 2023 which really felt as though AEW had taken several steps back from its previous good form on PPVs, Tony Khan’s company needs to make a big statement and bounce back in a major way.

AEW has a roster full of talented wrestlers, but it doesn't mean that there isn't room for improvement.

For this reason, there are several things that the promotion needs to avoid when it comes to booking Revolution 2024, with these worst case booking scenarios being things that absolutely need to not happen.

Bryan Danielson Turns Heel To Defeat Eddie Kingston

Danielson Challenges For The AEW Continental Crown

  • Danielson has shown signs of a bad guy in recent months
  • He must shake Kingston’s hand is he loses
  • Danielson is in his last full-time run

It feels like Eddie Kingston’s time with the Continental Crown has not even gotten started yet, so dethroning him at all would be a poor choice right now. Additionally, having Bryan Danielson continue down his path of being disrespectful to Kingston and actually turning heel would be a big error too.

Danielson’s journey in his last full time year needs to be something celebrated, rather than it seeing fans booing him. Kingston deserves the rub here to get his reign started, and earning Danielson’s respect is the simple but logical way to progress this story.

Don Callis Family Cheat Will Ospreay Out Of His First Contracted AEW Match

Ospreay Will Wrestle His First Match As An AEW Wrestler

  • Will Ospreay will do battle with Konosuke Takeshita
  • Ospreay is likely to turn face and feud with Don Callis
  • He cannot lose this first match

Will Ospreay could well be one of AEW’s biggest stars going forwards, and his first match as a signed AEW wrestler is coming at Revolution against Konosuke Takeshita. It would not be a shock to see the Don Callis Family turn on Ospreay and cost him the match.

Doing something so plain and bland would be a massive mistake, and it would not do any favors in making Ospreay look like a legit star. If they do turn on him, it needs to be after Ospreay impresses and wins. He cannot lose so soon.

Chris Jericho Aligns With Will Ospreay

Jericho & Ospreay Have History

  • After the Don Callis Family turn on Ospreay, he could get help
  • Chris Jericho has been absent for a couple of weeks
  • He has issues with Don Callis

Following on from the previous point, an Ospreay victory could still lead to the Don Callis Family turning on him following the match. It would actually make sense for Chris Jericho, given his issues with the Family and his history with Ospreay, to emerge and make the save.

Jericho is struggling right now in AEW with fans tuned out from what he is doing following on from some unsavory headlines online. Pairing him with Ospreay would be a disastrous move, and this cannot happen at Revolution for the sake of Ospreay’s momentum.

Wardlow Fails To Win The First Ever “Meat Madness”

AEW Have Announced A First Time Match

  • Wardlow cut the best promo of his career recently
  • He desperately needs some momentum
  • Another loss could kill his momentum indefinitely

On a recent episode of AEW Dynamite, the first ever “Meat Madness” was announced, which seems to be some sort of multi-man match featuring the bigger, larger, and more “meaty” AEW athletes. Wardlow and Powerhouse Hobbs have been announced thus far, and others such as Brody King, Brian Cage, Miro, and more could be too.

These current AEW wrestlers once worked for WWE in the past, but they're doing much better in Tony Khan's promotion.

There is only one potential winner though, and that has to be Wardlow. It would be a terribly bad booking decision to pull the rug from under Wardlow when he is only just beginning to appear interesting again. He needs this victory desperately after a year of poor booking.

Daniel Garcia Becoming TNT Champion Too Early

Garcia Is Still On His Way Up

  • Christian Cage defends the TNT Title against Daniel Garcia
  • There is still a story to be told between Cage & Adam Copeland
  • Garcia still needs more development

Daniel Garcia’s rise in popularity in recent months has been great to see, in addition to his improvements in the ring and on the mic. However, it would be a mistake of a booking decision to have him defeat Christian Cage at this point in time for the TNT Championship.

It feels like Garcia still has another level to go up in fan support and overall ability to get that big, star-making moment. Additionally, AEW still needs to resolve the TNT Title feud between Cage & Adam Copeland, so to pull the rug from under that would feel like everything has been a waste of time too.

Adam Copeland Turning Heel On Daniel Garcia

Copeland & Christian Cage May Align

  • Copeland & Cage have a lot of history
  • Garcia was given a TNT Title match instead of Copeland
  • A heel would be a nonsensical move

Eventually, it is inevitable that Copeland and Cage will realign and become a tag team. However, their tensions have risen so much in recent months that this would be a very silly direction to run right now.

Copeland may be annoyed that Garcia got his title shot at Revolution, and it could lead to him costing the young star the match. This would be silly, wouldn’t make sense, and it would make this whole angle feel like a mess.

Deonna Purrazzo Loses Without Any Storyline Advancement

Purrazzo Is Challenging Toni Storm

  • AEW have done well to introduce Purrazzo to the AEW audience
  • Storm is the clear favorite to win
  • This can’t just be a simple victory for Storm

Deonna Purrazzo had a lot of hype coming into AEW, and thus far she is being used well enough. It is likely that she will lose her first AEW Women’s World Title match at Revolution, but a worst case scenario would be just a simple defeat with nothing advancing her journey.

Storm could win clearly or else use interference from Mariah May and Lutha to win the match. Doing something so simple would be a mistake, and it would lead to Purrazzo taking two steps back, falling down the card, and getting lost in the shuffle. Either a rematch needs to be set up or something creative needs to be done to set up her character arc or a new feud going forwards.

Adam Page Winning His Second AEW World Championship

Page Won The Belt In 2021

  • Samoa Joe deserves a longer title reign
  • Swerve Strickland should be the next champion
  • It would make no sense for Page to become AEW World Champion right now

The story being told by AEW right now is that Adam Page will do anything to prevent Swerve Strickland from winning the AEW World Title, with it being suggested that he cares more about that than winning the thing itself. Therefore, it would contradict his current character arc to find himself with the belt.

Additionally, there are two men other than Page in Revolution’s AEW World Championship match who should be winning. Both Joe and Strickland have far bigger claims to walk out as champion, and when it comes to this match, Page winning is the worst option.

Adam Page Being Removed From The AEW Revolution Main Event

AEW Have Begun An Injury Angle

  • Adam Page got “injured” recently
  • He may be written out of Revolution
  • This would be a massive mistake

Reports from Fightful Select have revealed that Adam Page’s injury on a recent Dynamite episode was part of an angle and he was selling. This could indicate that for whatever reason, he may be set to be written out of the triple threat match at Revolution.

Tony Khan hasn't been able to find a good role for these struggling AEW wrestlers.

To build a match for so many weeks and then to take it away from fans would be a terrible booking scenario. It would feel like a mess, overbooked, and it would be cheating fans who have gotten invested week after week recently.

Ric Flair Being Directly Involved In The Finish Of Sting’s Final Match

Flair Has Come Along With Sting On His Retirement Journey

  • AEW brought in Flair after announcing Sting’s retirement
  • Flair has been by the side of Sting & Darby Allin
  • AEW has teased Flair aligning with Young Bucks

Despite some negativity from fans, Ric Flair has been a presence on AEW television for several months, often being involved in Sting’s matches and stories ahead of his retirement match at Revolution. Recently on Dynamite, Flair was frustrated with his lack of spotlight and went to talk with Sting’s final opponents - the Young Bucks.

Even with the history between Sting & Flair, The Nature Boy should not be directly involved in the finish of one of AEW’s biggest ever matches. This moment needs to be about Sting & Allin, not a wrinkled old Flair who is at the least popular stage of his whole career. It would be a shame to see Flair’s face all over the finish and a major moment.
