WWE Has A Job Opening For A New Lead Writer

Amid declining ratings on Monday Night Raw, WWE is looking to bring in a fresh voice to lead their writing team.

On LinkedIn, WWE posted an opening for a "Lead Writer" position.

The requirements include five or more years of "TV/Film writing and production experience", experience in leading/supervising a writing team and knowledge of the WWE shows, storylines, audience demographic and talents.

In the description, WWE noted several important responsibilities, such as being able to travel for weekly Raw, SmackDown and pay-per-view shows, producing/directing talents weekly, managing the writers/producers team as well as writing, compiling and editing promos, segments and long-term storylines.

Back in April, WWE conducted a long series of budget cuts amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. This included dozens of wrestlers, backstage producers and creative writers.

Several WWE writers have been let go over the last few years as Vince McMahon continues to work on solutions for the declining ratings.

McMahon made one drastic change to the creative team back in June, replacing Executive Director Paul Heyman with longtime company producer Bruce Prichard.

For what it's worth, it was recently reported that multiple wrestlers are frustrated with Prichard due to their lack of television time.

Last week's episode of Raw averaged just 1.527 million viewers, which marked the lowest in the show's 27-year history. Not only that, but the previous week's episode of AEW Dynamite (0.45 rating) beat Raw (an average 0.41 rating) in the key 18-49 demographic.

It was  later reported that McMahon is looking to shake things up following the historically low Raw viewership. And the shake-ups apparently consist of finding a new lead writer.

Something Has To Change

Replacing Heyman with Prichard hasn't led to the much-needed increase in ratings on Raw. The company has tried pushing different superstars, and they've introduced many different storylines and angles in recent months. But it's not enough to help the viewership. Something else has to change, and perhaps a new lead writer will do the trick.
