Highlights

  • The current Raw theme song has received criticism from fans for being generic, and many hope for a more exciting and energetic song in the future.

Tonight's WWE Monday Night Raw is set to be a big one. It's not only the go-home show for this weekend's Survivor Series: WarGames, but it's almost certain that the worst kept secret will be revealed, when Randy Orton makes his return to WWE 18 months after his back injury. Orton announced as part of the WarGames match might not only be the big news, however, as according to Fightful Select, Raw is about to undergo a noticeable change, which could happen as soon as tonight.

Fightful Select reports that a source told them Raw is set to get a new theme song in the near future, or possibly as soon as the November 20 Raw. Fightful added, "We haven't been able to confirm as much as that quite yet, but did confirm that it was a discussion and a song has been produced. From a timing perspective, it would make sense, as Vo Williams' 'Greatness' has been used for almost exactly two years, as it debuted on November 22, 2021."

The History Of Monday Night Raw Theme Songs

Raw's current theme song has been ridiculed by many fans, as it comes across as pretty generic and not the type of song to pump people up. The same could be said for SmackDown's current theme song, "Nobody Better Than Me" by Def Rebel. Def Rebel works a lot with WWE, producing many wrestler entrance themes as well, much to the chagrin of many fans who are uninspired by their content.

There was a time when WWE nailed it with the Raw entrance theme. They were iconic songs that got the audience excited about the show. Jim Johnston created the Raw theme from 1993-1997, which was followed by the heavy and iconic "Thorn In Your Eye" during the Attitude Era from 1997-2002. That was followed by the equally fun and intense "Across the Nation" by Union Underground from 2002-2006. "...To Be Loved" by Papa Roach then took over from 2006-2009.

Since then, however, Raw has had a bunch of stinker themes fans haven't connected to. Nickelback's "Burn It to the Ground" opened Raw from 2009-2012. That was followed up with "The Night" by CFO$ from 2012-2016, Shinedown's "Enemies" from 2016-2018, Papa Roach's "Born for Greatness" from 2018-2019, Skillet's "Legendary" for a year, and NF's "The Search" for a year. For the last two years, it's Vo Williams' "Greatness" which has welcomed the audience to Monday Night Raw.

Raw and SmackDown intro themes usually seem to only last two years, so it feels like time for a change. That's especially true now, with WWE itself undergoing so many changes. With Vince McMahon out of creative, Triple H in full control, and Endeavor as the new owners, WWE is entering a new era of sports entertainment. To mark that, they need to set themselves apart from the past. A new Raw theme song is just one way to do it. With Triple H's love for Metallica and hard rock, perhaps we can get something better this time around.
