WWE Reportedly Planning On Finally Splitting The Undisputed Tag Titles
WWE has made a lot of changes to some of its major titles in 2023, even introducing an entirely new World Championship over the summer. Rather than have Roman Reigns cart two titles around, The Tribal Chief's WWE and Universal Championships were replaced with one Undisputed one. The women's titles have also had their brand names removed. The Raw Women's Championship is now the Women's World Title, and the SmackDown equivalent has been renamed the Undisputed Women's Title. Using the word undisputed doesn't make much sense when both divisions have other world champions, but best not to dwell on that.
Splitting The Tag Team Titles
Not doing the same thing to the Tag Team Titles also doesn't make much sense, but that might be about to change. According to Better Wrestling Experience (via Cultaholic), WWE has plans to finally split the Undisputed Tag Team Championships. Both sets of belts have been held by one team ever since The Usos beat Rated RKO for the Raw Championships on May 20, 2022, adding them to the SmackDown Tag Team Titles they were already holding.

The Usos held the titles until WrestleMania 39, losing them to Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. The best friend pairing then kept hold of all four belts until Payback earlier this month. The Judgment Day took them home that night and have held onto them since. As for what the plan is when it comes to splitting them, that is currently unclear. With other reports suggesting WWE may well be reshuffling its titles and divisions soon, what exactly the company has planned for the tag division may well become more clear in the coming weeks.
Are There Enough Tag Teams To Go Around?
The other WWE title rumor doing the rounds is that championships will undergo more changes as the promotion plans on introducing Trios Titles and maybe even championships for different weight divisions. Exactly how that would work in WWE would be interesting, and it may well be something that has been discussed since Endeavor's takeover is now complete and WWE and UFC are now both under the new TKO banner.
I'm torn between there being too many titles in WWE and there needing to be this many championships because the roster is bigger than ever right now. Nia Jax returned on Monday and when some fans asked why, others responded by questioning who else there is for Rhea Ripley to face on Raw right now. Perhaps an indication WWE doesn't need two main roster women's titles, or maybe a sign that not enough effort has been put into building challengers for Ripley. My guess is we see the same struggles in the tag division if the titles are split.
