In terms of his time outside wrestling, there are several things that fans should know about his life away from the industry. Hardy is someone who has some quite interesting facts and tidbits of information about his life that are fun to learn about, in addition to some not so good times during his life too, both in his early and later years.

10 Had A Tragic Childhood

Whilst it may seem as though the biggest professional wrestlers experience lives with glitz and glamor, that couldn’t be further from the truth for Matt Hardy during his childhood, as at just the age of 12, he went through a terrible period.

In 1987, Matt Hardy’s mother, Ruby Hardy, unfortunately passed away due to brain cancer. Losing a mother so young would have undoubtedly been a very hard thing to go through.

Matt Hardy was a top student during his school years, both from a sports and academic standpoint, and that led him to attending the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, studying engineering.

However, more turmoil would arise in his family, as his father fell ill, leading to Hardy dropping out of college after just one year to return home and look after both his father, and his younger brother Jeff Hardy.

Everyone needs to start somewhere, and that is also true for the most successful professional wrestlers of all time. In his early years, Hardy’s first job was at a car wash.

In terms of getting a bit of cash, it isn’t the worst job to have, and it no doubt helped his family out too, before both he and his brother would move on to train and become wrestlers, eventually joining WWE and becoming stars.

7 Married With Four Children

Matt Hardy has had his fair share of relationships, but he got married in 2013 to Rebecca Reyes or “Reby Sky”, with the pair sticking together and growing a family with one another.

The pair have four children together, all of whom have wonderfully classic and quirky names, such as Maxel, Wolfgang, Bartholomew, and Ever. His family have often been at the forefront of various skits, videos, interviews, and even in storylines throughout his career.

6 Has Had Legal Issues

Unfortunately, Matt Hardy has gone through some ups and downs during his lifetime, some of which have even left him in legal trouble - something which both he and his brother have been at the brunt of. In 2011, he was going through a bad spot, and it would see him get arrested on multiple occasions.

His various arrests have been due to DUI, drug charges, and further drinking. In 2014, both he and wife would get into trouble with police too due to an alleged fight at a hotel. However, as time has gone on, Hardy seems to be steered well clear of trouble.

5 He Overcame Addiction

Life on the road can lead to a very slippery slope for some, and Hardy was one of many who fell into the trap of both drug and alcohol addiction, leading to those aforementioned legal issues and interactions with law enforcement.

Over the years though, Hardy has fought hard to overcome these demons, and through both rehab and the help of his wife, he is now free of addiction and clean, with it looking as though he has been without threat of addiction for many years at this point.

4 Built His Own Home

Due to the success of his career, Matt Hardy did what many would likely wish they could do, and that is to build one’s own home. Hardy’s infamous “Compound” in North Carolina was built from the ground up, designed in his family’s image.

Fans have been welcomed into Hardy’s home on numerous occasions, whether that be through online house tours, various videos, and even on TV with the home first appearing in Impact Wrestling during Hardy’s “Broken Universe”.

Hardy has several passions outside of the wrestling industry, with one of those being Spider-Man, with him loving the comic books, and even being the owner of an extensive and valuable collection of Spider-Man comics.

Hardy has also mentioned that among his favorite films of all time, Spider-Man 2 is up there with the likes of Powder and The Crow. In terms of the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy, the second one feels like the unanimous choice for the best.

Like many in professional wrestling, Matt Hardy has dipped his toes into the world of acting, though he has had very minor roles and doesn’t look too likely to find himself in Hollywood any time soon.

Hardy has appeared on That 70s Show, Scare Tactics, and The 99 in small roles. In terms of reality TV and game shows, he has also made appearances on Fear Factor, in which he was the winner, gaining $50,000 for a chosen charity, in addition to Headbanger’s Ball, which is a heavy metal program on MTV.

Although career in TV never took off, Hardy has delved into other forms of media, one of which being his YouTube channel, which has over 30,000 subscribers. On the channel, he has produced various skits, mini-series, and is currently using it to run his very own podcast.

He talks about his life, does interviews, and answers Q&As from fans, making it an interactive channel which he looks to enjoy using. His various family members and friends have made appearances on his YouTube channel, with him uploading upwards of 850 videos in the 12 years of having his channel.
