10 Things WWE Fans Need To Know About The Quebecers Tag Team

The year 1986 saw second generation French Canadian talent Jacques Rogeau sign to WWE alongside his brother, Raymond. Together, as the Fabulous Rougeaus, the brothers would be a staple of the tag team division, becoming ironically pro-American heels but never capturing the tag belts together in WWE. Eventually Jacques would go solo to be repackaged as the Mountie, but more tag team success would come.

Paired with fellow French Canadian Pierre Carl Ouellet — now known as PCO — the two would wrestle as the Quebecers from 1993 to 1994. Fans might be unaware of this run, so let’s take a look at what fans should know about the duo known only as Jacques and Pierre.

Jacques Rougeau’s repackaging into the Mountie would happen in 1990 and prove to be one of his more memorable gimmicks, but the persona would cause problems when it came time to tour Canada.

WWE experienced resistance from the real-life Royal Canadian Mounted Police over the gimmick, forcing the promotion to bill Rougeau under his real name whenever they ventured across the border. Even when Rougeau transitioned into the Quebecers tag team, the Mountie gimmick didn’t entirely go away, as he and Ouellet dressed in similar ring gear while their entrance theme featured lyrics about how they weren’t mounties.

9 Managed By Johnny Polo

Before the Quebecers, Jacques Rougeau was managed by Jimmy Hart as both a tag team specialist and singles performer, except when he and Ouellet debuted as a team on WWE television in July 1993, squashing various jobbers.

By mid-September, they’d get their own manager in Johnny Polo, an entitled rich kid who’d have his own legendary in-ring career as the grungy cult leader Raven in ECW, WCW, and beyond. Also managing Adam Bomb, Polo would stick with the Quebecers until the bitter end, accompanying Pierre in his big break-up match with Jacques (see below).

8 Won The Tag Titles By Disqualification

Following their late July debut, the Quebeccers, it wouldn’t be long before Jacques and Pierre reached the apex of the division when they took on the Steiner Brothers for the World Tag Team Championship on the 9/13/1993 episode of Monday Night Raw.

The bout had the gimmick of being under what were called “Quebec Province Rules,” which stipulated that a disqualification would result in a title change. And that’s just what happened, as Scott Steiner’s use of a hockey stick as a weapon cost the Steiners their belts.

7 Took Part In The 1993 Survivor Series

Even after the title change, the Quebecers and the Steiners weren’t done with one another. One of their notable meetings happened on pay-per-view as they were on opposing teams in a Survivor Series 1993 elimination match.

While Rick and Scott Steiner were allied with Lex Luger and the Undertaker as the All-Americans, Jacques and Pierre were part of the Foreign Fanatics, alongside Yokozuna and Ludvig Borga — except that a kayfabe injury caused Crush to take Pierre’s place. While Jacques and Scott Steiner clashed a bit, it was Lex Luger who ultimately eliminated the Quebecer.

6 Feuded With 1-2-3 Kid

Once they were done with the Steiners, Jacques and Pierre decided to focus on teams that wouldn’t be such a hassle to beat, usually made up of random jobbers. But after they took on perennial jobber Barry Horowitz and the up-and-coming 1-2-3 Kid, the Quebecers couldn’t get rid of the latter.

In early 1994, 1-2-3 Kid would partner up with Marty Jannetty and once again challenge for the belts, scoring a surprise victory on Monday Night Raw to end the Quebecers 119-day reign.

5 May Have Lost The Tag Titles By Accident

However, the Quebecers would win back the belts from the above-mentioned underdogs at a house show about a week later for a 71-day reign, with their first major defense being against Bret and Owen Hart at Royal Rumble 1994.

Their victory would help facilitate the Hart Brothers break-up going into WrestleMania 10, but the Quebecers would hit a stumbling block at a UK house show a couple of months later. The tag team Men on a Mission would dethrone the champs at Royal Albert Hall, with rumors that the win was an accident due to Mabel inadvertently knocking out Pierre for real.

4 Broke Up After Losing The Tag Titles For The Third Time

Jacques and Pierre won back the belts from Mabel and Mo days later, but this third title reign would be their shortest. After defending the belts against Men on a Mission again on Raw, the Quebecers would lose the belts to the babyface version of the Headshrinkers a few episodes later, ending their reign at a mere 26 days.

After failing to win back the belts from Fatu and Samu, Pierre staged an attack on Jacques, breaking up the team. This would lead to a big match between the two at a Montreal house show in October 1994, which would serve as Jacques’ retirement match, which he won.

3 Became The Amazing French Canadians In 1996

Following their final match together, Pierre stayed in WWE, where he was repackaged as the pirate Jean-Pierre LaFitte. However, Jacques would come out of retirement after a couple of years, and the two would reunite in fall 1996 in WCW as the tag team the Amazing French Canadians.

Their big angle had them managed by Col. Robert Parker in a feud with Harlem Heat and Sister Sherri, while other in-ring exploits include wrestling in what proved to be Arn Anderson’s retirement match as well as taking on the Steiner Brothers at Clash of the Champions 34.

2 Returned To WWE In 1998

The former Quebecers’ WCW career would last less than a year, as they’d return to WWE in early 1998. One of their few major matches during this run would be a losing effort against the Godwinns at No Way Out and taking part in a tag team battle royal at WrestleMania 14.

Otherwise, Jacques and Pierre mostly functioned as jobbers, losing to teams like Disciples of Apocalypse, Cactus Jack and Chainsaw Charlie, and the Headbangers. Pierre would have the dubious honor of competing in the Brawl 4 All tournament and losing his first-round match.

1 Reunited In WCW As Part of Team Canada

Jacques Rougeau and Pierre Carl Ouellet would share the screen once more, as allies in the year 2000 when they were both briefly members of Lance Storm’s heel faction, Team Canada. Unfortunately, the two would never tag together, as Rougeau ditched the group and WCW pretty much as soon as he arrived.

Ouellet had a little more success than his former partner, competing in a handful of matches and being given Lance Storm’s Hardcore Championship, which he lost later that night to Norman Smiley.
