10 Weird Moments From Scott Steiner's WCW Career We Completely Forgot About

Scott Steiner deserves to be mentioned on a short list of the all-time great WCW performers. Both the tag team run with his brother Rick and his singles run moving into the main event scene showed Steiner’s greatness. WWE and TNA both had Scott on their roster at various points, but neither company came even close to finding the same success that WCW did with him.

Few wrestlers were able to thrive that long in WCW and always come off like an important figure. However, that doesn’t mean that everything Steiner did is remembered fondly. Some of the stranger segments or matches rarely get discussed today since so much time has passed. Scott had the following weird WCW moments that get overlooked.

10 Short-Lived "White Thunder" Nickname

WCW turning Scott Steiner heel to end the Steiner Brothers tag team led to Scott trying a few different things to stand out. Steiner tried to come up with a new nickname when making some physical changes like dying his hair blonde.

“White Thunder” was the first nickname used by Steiner when many fans felt he was trying too hard to be like retired legend Billy Graham. Steiner thankfully ditched the nickname quickly to make most fans forget about this failed idea. The equally outlandish “Big Poppa Pump” and “Big Bad Booty Daddy” nicknames somehow worked much better.

9 Leading NWO Hollywood When Hulk Hogan Was "Running For President"

Hulk Hogan announcing he was leaving wrestling to run for President of the United States in 1998. The storyline was obviously a work to give Hogan some time off, but this led to a strange shift in the New World Order Hollywood faction.

Scott Steiner was the unofficial leader of the group without Hogan despite it never being confirmed. Backstage segments talking down to some members and even kicking out Scott Hall made fans feel like they missed something to get to that point, but it helped Steiner look more important.

8 Pretending To Be Injured With Half Body Cast

The rivalry between Scott and Rick Steiner after Scott joined the New World Order was quietly one of the best angles. Anyone watching back the shows from that time will likely be shocked to see the crowd investment in Rick’s revenge being as strong as most other top stars.

Scott trying to cower his way out of facing his brother led to some strange comedic segments. There was a promo with Steiner having a half body cast with a bizarre looking doctor vouching for him. WCW doing things like this made the fans want to see Rick get revenge more than ever.

7 Shoot Promo Insulting Kimberly Page

Scott Steiner started to become a backstage problem for WCW when he cut shoot promos without any approval. There was heat between Scott and Diamond Dallas Page’s wife Kimberly when Kimberly reported Steiner’s friend Tammy Sytch for having drugs in the female locker room.

All this drama played out when Scott cut a promo in the ring completely bashing Kimberly even though they had no storylines together to make it even weirder to the average fan. This culminated with Scott having a backstage fight with DDP and Kimberly quitting.

6 Breaking Out Of A Straitjacket To Show Strength

WCW was falling apart when Scott Steiner started to reach his peak as a singles star. This shouldn’t take away from Steiner doing great work, but it made things harder for him. Many of WCW’s ridiculous concepts featured names like Steiner trying to make it work.

A “Straitjacket Caged Heat” match between Booker T and Steiner featured WCW’s version of a Hell in a Cell match with the straitjacket addition. Steiner ripped out of a straitjacket to sell his strength and mimic the visual from the PPV poster used for Mayhem 2000.

5 Having Dogs Attack Sting

WCW uniting the Steiner Brothers in 1999 was an underrated storyline that felt noteworthy at the time. Rick turning heel to embrace a new character aligned him with Scott now on his own after the New World Order finally ended.

Sting feuding with Rick more than Scott led to both Steiner Brothers getting involved to make his life miserable. The Steiners had vicious dogs attack Sting in the parking lot to show how dangerous they were, but it didn’t get remembered due to WCW trending down in 1999.

4 Missy Hyatt Managing Him

Scott Steiner joined WCW a little after his brother Rick to form their iconic tag team. WCW felt that Scott needed something different to make up for that gap when having Missy Hyatt becoming his love interest for a short time.

Hyatt was the most popular female performer in the industry behind Miss Elizabeth and Sherri Martel at this point. The couple was meant to replicate Scott being the golden boy jock dating the hottest woman in WCW. There was no chemistry there, and it felt even weirder with Missy also managing Rick.

3 Walking A Live Tiger To The Ring

WCW wanted to find new ways to make fans truly believe that anything could happen when Scott Steiner was on the screen. One of the strangest ideas to have no real logic behind it other than coolness featured Scott walking a live tiger to the ring.

Steiner walked to the ring holding a tiger on the leash with the professional handler right next to him in case things got dangerous. The tiger being out in front of a giant loud crowd with nothing holding him back, but a leash is wild to process today.

2 Leading The Magnificent Seven Faction With Ric Flair

Magnificent Seven WCW

Ric Flair was one of the bigger targets of Scott Steiner during his phase when he cut shoot promos against WCW’s wishes. Steiner personally berated Flair with vicious insults that didn’t lead to anything more on the show.

This made it even stranger when the two were forced to work together on the same side not that long afterwards. The Magnificent Seven faction featured Steiner as WCW Champion and Flair as the authority figure leading the rest of the group for their WCW takeover.

1 Abducting & Attacking Goldberg's Girlfriend

Goldberg Handcuffed

Scott Steiner scored the first decisive win over Goldberg when choking him out with a lead pipe and the Steiner Recliner submission in a No DQ match. This win helped get Steiner to the next level before winning the WCW Championship, but the entire feud with Goldberg helped him.

WCW booked a wild segment with Steiner abducting Goldberg’s girlfriend and making him search for them all show. Kevin Nash, Rick Steiner and Jeff Jarrett attacked Goldberg and handcuffed him to the ring. Scott put Goldberg’s girlfriend in the Steiner Recliner as Goldberg watched unable to help.
