Alexa Bliss Should Have Been Sister Abigail
Quick Links
It had looked like Windham Rotunda's wrestling career was going nowhere after a failed stint on the main roster as the forgettable Husky Harris. He would soon be demoted back to developmental but managed to turn that setback into a bounce back by portraying a new character named Bray Wyatt, first in FCW and then in NXT.
Wyatt was a leader of a cult from the swamp. He would soon be joined by Luke Harper and Erick Rowan, and they together formed The Wyatt Family. Their run in NXT was not long though as they would soon be promoted to the main roster and became a heavily featured act there for the next several years.
Wyatt would remain a top of the card performer in the WWE for nearly a decade and his character would undergo several transformations. Whatever role he played though, a mysterious character named Sister Abigail continued to be associated with him, even though we never really found out her identity.

Who Was Sister Abigail?
WWE often have the habit of starting storylines and giving up on them midway. One cannot say that this was the case with the Sister Abigail arc though, as she continued to be mentioned for nearly eight years, and Wyatt's finisher was also named after her.
We never really got the answer to whom she really was though. Initially, fans believed that she was the real leader of The Wyatt Family, who was pulling the strings behind the scenes. There was even speculation that Paige could have played the role.
But considering the psychological nature of the Bray Wyatt character, there are definitely several other possibilities as well. Sister Abigail could have very well have been deity that their swamp cult believed in. She could have been a dead sister of Wyatt, who was the reason behind his issues. She could have just been a figment of Wyatt's imagination.
There was mention of Randy Orton burning Sister Abigail's remains when he burned down the Wyatt Family compound. Also, during his feud with Finn Balor, Wyatt dressed in a veil during a promo, which could have hinted at the fact that Sister Abigail was nothing but his alter-ego. At the end of the day though, the fans never got a clear solution to the mystery surrounding the character.
Alexa Bliss' Performance In Her Supernatural Gimmick Was Superb
Wyatt's career would become stagnant for a bit before his character underwent another transformation. This time around, he appeared as the host of a bizarre children's show known as the Firefly Fun House. He also had a supernatural alter-ego known as The Fiend, which became one of the main event acts in the company, until his surprise release in mid-2021.
During this run as The Fiend, he would be associated with Alexa Bliss, who became his supernatural sidekick. While the reaction of the fans was mixed to her new character and the booking was questionable to say the least, there is no question that Bliss was tremendous in her performance and proved herself to be one of the best actors in wrestling.
Bliss' character lost all steam following Wyatt's release, even though WWE did try to keep it going for a while.

Alexa Bliss Should Have Been Sister Abigail
Someone like Bliss could have been perfect as Sister Abigail. Again, the nature of the character has never been explained.
Of course, it would have made very little sense to claim that she had been Sister Abigail from the very beginning, since we had seen her be one of the top performers on the women's division for years. It would have been very simple to have her as being 'possessed' by Sister Abigail though and become the human vessel for the spirit.
On one hand, it would have solved one of the biggest unsolved mysteries in modern wrestling, and on the other hand, Bliss probably would have been able to deliver a very convincing performance in the role judging by how well she had done as the sidekick to The Fiend.
Is It Better That The Sister Abigail Storyline Never Led Nowhere?
The Sister Abigail arc is one of the most intriguing arcs in wrestling history that ultimately led absolutely nowhere, but is it better this way?
With the kind of expectations surrounding the character, it would have been very difficult for anyone to deliver in the role. Also, it is hard to see what direction things would have headed storyline-wise. So, like the dream Undertaker vs Sting match, it might have been for the best that it never ended up happening. If it had though, Bliss might have been Sister Abigail's best chance at success.
