Backstage Details On Plans For New Day Following Xavier Woods' Injury
Xavier Woods could miss up to a year of action after undergoing surgery on an Achilles injury that he suffered during a show in Sydney last week, and the WWE Universe is wondering how his absence will affect Kofi Kingston and Big E.
After all, no three-person wrestling stable is the same when one person is gone for a long period of time. So what does the future hold for Kingtson and Big E while Woods recovers from his injury?
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Cageside Seats), the belief was that New Day would be the main "babyface team" for SmackDown Live to clash with The Revival, prior to Woods suffering the Achilles injury. But even without Woods, WWE could maintain the original plan and keep Kingston and Big E going as the main faces of the tag team division.
Losing Woods for a lengthy period still hurts, but Kingston is coming off a five-month reign with the WWE Championship - while Big E remains as popular as ever before. Without a doubt, these two can hold their ground and continue to perform as the beloved New Day tag team.

Not only that, but there simply aren't many tag teams that can match New Day's status as a main event stable, especially on the SmackDown Live show. Luke Harper and Erick Rowan were briefly reunited, but that ended when the latter was drafted to the Raw brand.
The New Day and The Revival are capable to piecing together quite the feud to elevate the look of the tag team on the SmackDown Live division. So even if Woods isn't here for several months, it doesn't look like his absence will impact WWE's original plans for New Day.
New Day's Main Event Run Should Continue
It doesn't make sense for WWE to slow down New Day's run as a main event tag team. Their popularity remains at an all-time high, and the momentum remains strong following Kingston's illustrious WWE Championship reign. It may not feel the same without Woods, but Kingston and Big E will still carry the New Day no matter what.
