Beth Behrs Opens Up About The Unexpected 2 Broke Girls Ending

While "2 Broke Girls" ended in a manner that was completely shocking to Beth Behrs, it's clear from her booming career that the truncated series didn't throw her off course. Behrs made her move — along with a good chunk of the "2 Broke Girls" crew — to "The Neighborhood," starring television icons such as Max Greenfield and Cedric the Entertainer. And while the show is known for its comedic chops and "fish out of water" storyline, Behrs took the series to a whole new level in October 2021.

"My character Gemma already has a child, Grover, on the show, but her and Dave are pregnant with their second baby," Behrs told The List in July 2021, just a handful of months before her character's arc was significantly altered. In a shocking twist, Behrs' character suffered a miscarriage, and her emotional journey of pain, strife, and grief were captured on camera. Of the plot line, Behrs told TV Insider, "I have had so many friends go through losing a child, and how all-consuming the grief can be. I was so honored to be a part of telling this story and I hope it makes anyone who's been through it feel supported and a little bit less alone."

While the storyline was heart-wrenching, Behrs' approach to the both personally and socially impactful twist was not surprising. In her sit-down with The List, she explained what an honor it was to collaborate with "such an incredible group of people," all working together to put out messages on-screen that she could be proud of. "I hope we continue to do stories that have social impact, but also bring people together through laughter," Behrs told us. "I think it's really important. I'm proud of our show that we're able to address these very important issues, but then also do it in a way that doesn't feel preachy. That feels like it's about all of us coming together."
