Britt Baker Recalls Being An Outcast In Both Wrestling And Dentistry
AEW star Brit Baker is a dentist. Bet you didn't know that. Just kidding, of course. Baker's other profession is an integral aspect of her on-screen persona, as it should be. There aren't a lot of professional wrestlers who also practice dentistry. There was one guy, but he wasn't a real dentist.
Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. began training to be a wrestler while she was studying dentistry, and as you can probably imagine, juggling these very different vocations was no simple task.
"Those worlds don’t go together whatsoever! They don’t complement one another. It’s very much oil and vinegar. I was kind of an outcast in both worlds," the former AEW Women's World Champion said during a recent interview with MEL Magazine. "In the wrestling world, it was all these grungy guys who wanted to be wrestlers their entire lives. Some of them didn’t even finish school because wrestling was all they wanted to do, and I was someone who loved wrestling like they did, but I also had worked my way into dental school. Some of them kind of snubbed me a little bit for that," Baker continued, adding that her fellow wrestling students thought that she wasn't taking training seriously.

Meanwhile, Baker's peers at the University of Pittsburgh's dental school looked down on anyone who didn't appear to be 100% dedicated to dentistry, so her pursuit of wrestling made her an outcast.
"Dental students don’t think it’s cool if you’re a wrestler; they think it’s cool if you get straight As and become an oral surgeon," Brit said. "That’s how you impress them. So it was a hard time socially because I was the clear weirdo in both worlds."
Baker -- who lost the AEW Women's World Championship to Thunder Rosa back in March -- defeated Ruby Soho in the final match of the inaugural Owen Hart Foundation Tournament at Double or Nothing on Sunday, May 29. Baker booked her place in the final by defeating Danielle Kamela in the qualifying round, Maki Itoh in the quarterfinals, and Toni Storm in the semifinals. Soho defeated Robyn Renegade, Riho, and Kris Statlander en route to the finals.
