Hades: How to Romance Thanatos, The God of Death
While majority of a player's time in Hades is spent killing enemies, players can also enter in a relationship with certain characters like Thanatos.
Throughout the course of Hades players will encounter dozens of colorful characters that will both try to kill them or befriend them, and sometimes even both. Players will be able to have discussions with the different Gods in the game, fight against old heroes of Greek Mythology, or just hang out with everyone's favorite three-headed dog Cerberus. One of the most interesting facets of the game though is that players can even help Zagreus fall in love.
Thanatos is one of the first characters players will encounter during their playthrough, and to romance him, they will need to get some items. Getting some of these items will test skill and dedication as it requires the player to win a hard competition. Without these items, players will be unable to unlock Thanatos' dialogue option. Once the necessary items are given to Thanatos, it is still up to the player to romance Hades' Thanatos or continue as friends.
Players aren't able to romance all of the characters in Hades, and there are actually only two to choose from. Luckily, these are by far two of the best options in the game, with one of them being Thanatos the God of Death. Hades' Thanatos is dark and mysterious and has a lot in common with the main character Zagreus. This guide helps players figure out how to romance the God of Death.
Hades: How to Romance Thanatos
The first thing that players will need to do in order to romance Thanatos is track down at least six bottles of Nectar and gift them to Thanatos. This can be fairly difficult because he is one of the more difficult NPCs to track down. Basically, players will have to get lucky and find him out in the Underworld and hope he reappears inside the House of Hades. Once players encounter him several times they just have to gift him the Nectar in order to trigger Thanatos' favor.
Unlike the majority of the characters in Hades, Thanatos' favor isn't explicitly stated for the player, but it is pretty easy to complete as long as they just play the game how they have been so far. Eventually, players will come across Thanatos out in the Underworld again and he will challenge them as usual, but this time he wonders if Zagreus is strong enough to escape. After beating him this time he realizes how strong Zagreus is and then players can gift him some Ambrosia.
After this players will need to continue gifting Hades' Thanatos Ambrosia until they completely level up his affinity level. Once it reaches the maximum point a short cutscene will play out inside Zagreus' bedroom where players are given the choice of starting a relationship with Thanatos or staying friends.
