Jaylen Ramsey Thinks He Could Crack An NHL Roster With 6 Months Of Training

Divisive Cornerback Jaylen Ramsey feels like he could make the NHL if he was given six months time to train for it. It should be noted that Ramsey has never even skated before.

This bit of information came out during an interview with ESPN's Mina Kimes. Say what you will about Ramsey's comments, but he shares a quality that most star athletes all seem to possess — beyond the raw athletic talent that is. Most star players, no matter the sport, always tend to have a bit of a cocky attitude with little to no exception. It's rare that you find a star player who doesn't possess a massive amount of pride. Sometimes, that pride will show up in the player's attitude, something that Ramsey is well known for, as he is one of the most outspoken athletes out there.

Is it likely that the Jacksonville Jaguars star cornerback would even make the NHL? It's highly doubtful, he's never laced up a pair of skates before, and while he's young, it would be hard to lear—and become elite—so late in his life. At 23-years-old, it would be harder for him to learn to skate and right now he would be on the cusp of his prime years no matter what sport he was participating in. Also, that's to say nothing of the absolutely minuscule time with only six months of training.

Maybe if this was the 1970s where the era had far more goons/enforcers running around he could land a spot on a team and just fight players, but given how athletic hockey has become and the focus turning away from fisticuffs that means he'd either have to be a very good defenceman or forward. Maybe the likes of the ECHL would be a better fit though even that league requires a bit of experience and some skill the play in, even if it is the lowest professional league associated with the NHL.

While Ramsey's comments are unlikely to ever come to fruition, for a time it is at least an interesting topic to think about, and it makes one wonder why there are fewer multi-sport athletes nowadays when they were not uncommon over the last 30 years, albeit usually, those players played in both the NFL and the MLB which have only a very small window in which their seasons overlap.
