After nearly two years of retirement, renowned UFC Hall of Famer and former featherweight champion Jose Aldo has decided to step back into the octagon. The Brazilian fighter is set to make his highly anticipated return at UFC 301, where he will face off against Jonathan Martinez in a bantamweight bout. The event is scheduled to take place on May 4th in his hometown of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

While the UFC is yet to officially confirm the news, Aldo himself shared an ESPN report announcing his comeback on his Instagram page.

Aldo, who is 37 years old, called time on his UFC career following a defeat to Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 278 in August 2022. However, he didn't stay away from combat sports for long, transitioning to boxing. During his stint in the boxing ring, Aldo competed three times, including one exhibition match. Notably, he faced former UFC veteran Jeremy Stephens at Jorge Masvidal's Gamebred Boxing 4 event in April 2023, where the bout ended in a draw.

With a professional record of 31 wins and 8 losses, Aldo had been on an impressive three-fight winning streak before his retirement. He was on the cusp of a title shot in the UFC bantamweight division before his setback against Dvalishvili.

Nonetheless, with Aldo's return, it's expected that he will serve as the co-main event once the fight is officially added to the lineup.

Before his retirement, Aldo demonstrated his enduring prowess with an impressive three-fight win streak. Victories over Rob Font, Pedro Munhoz, and Marlon Vera solidified his position as a high-level competitor in the bantamweight division.
