NJPW's Kenta Arrives In AEW, Attacks Jon Moxley
Kenta debuted in AEW this week. He rushed the ring wearing a mask and attacked Jon Moxley after Dynamite's main event.
AEW has a complicated relationship with New Japan. A relationship that has been made more complex by the pandemic. Some of AEW's wrestlers are also allowed to compete for NJPW. Jon Moxley, for example, who is currently the IWGP US Champion. That may not be the case for much longer as the number one contender to his crown Kenta has arrived.
The former WWE Superstar made his unannounced AEW debut on Wednesday night. The main event of the show pitted Kenny Omega and The Good Brothers against Moxley, PAC, and Rey Fenix. The Good Brothers hit Fenix with The Magic Killer and covered him for the win, which allowed chaos to ensue after the match.

Lance Archer rushed the ring and ran off The Good Brothers, leaving Omega and Moxley alone in the ring, but not for long. Mox was jumped by a masked intruder who revealed himself to be Kenta once the former AEW Champion was down. Kenta is scheduled to face Moxley for the US Title at NJPW New Beginning USA 2021 on February 26, 2021. Moxley will have been champion for 550 days by the time he defends the title against Kenta.
Since the US Title has, rather fittingly, been stuck in the US, NJPW stars have been competing for the right to challenge for it rather than vying for the actual title. Kenta won that right last year and successfully defended it against Satoshi Kojima at Wrestle Kingdom 15. With strict travel restrictions still in place, Kenta must have been doing quite a bit of quarantining over the course of the last month to have made it to the US.
Kenta's arrival in AEW is good news for wrestling fans for all sorts of reasons. Not only does it mean the US Title can finally be defended, and possibly even change hands, but it might mean other NJPW stars have made it Stateside for the promotion's show later this month. It also means the plot continues to thicken regarding the cross-promotional work being done. That final segment featured stars from three different companies, all on Dynamite.
