Reason WWE Decided To Fire William Regal Revealed

The wrestling world is still in shock over the recent releases by WWE, specifically, that of William Regal who was an integral part of NXT and a huge advocate for so many of today's biggest WWE Superstars as they were first getting their careers going. He was said to be close with both Triple H and Vince McMahon, but that wasn't enough to keep him off a list of more WWE cuts.

While early reactions were a mix of wrestlers saying how important he was to their development and fans crying out that WWE has made a huge mistake, the reason Regal was released by WWE seems to be coming to light. Some theories suggest WWE is moving on from anyone closely associated with Triple H, but as per WrestlingNews.co, the company's statement on the release is as follows: "With the continued evolution of NXT 2.0, we’ve decided to part ways with some of the staff based in our Performance Center. We thank them for their many contributions throughout the years and wish them the best."

The belief here is that NXT is no longer interested in signing independent wrestlers and is looking exclusively at athletes and non-experienced wrestlers who are coming through their initiatives like their new NIL program. As such, scouting jobs done by Regal and others were deemed unnecessary. Because there was no need for him to identify talents as he'd done with names like Sasha Banks or others, WWE must have felt that keeping him was only getting in the way of their new hiring policy.

Interestingly, that WWE couldn't find another job for Regal to do feels a bit odd.

Regal Should Land On His Feet

It's hard to imagine a talent of Regal's caliber -- who has extensive wrestling and producing experience -- will be out of a job for long. If AEW doesn't pick him up to work backstage with their new hires and young budding stars, someone will.

It just seems disappointing that someone like Regal, who seemed willing to do pretty much anything for WWE, wasn't given an opportunity to contribute in another way. There seems to be a real feeling of concern backstage in NXT now that someone of Regal's authority could be tossed aside so easily.
