Reign: 10 Stunning Outfits From The Show

CW's Reign gave fans a lot to love - and that included the stunning gowns and looks. We take a look at the most stunning fashion moments on the show!

As far as historical accuracy is concerned, Reign might not be the best choice for purists. The CW show took a lot of liberties in its portrayal of Mary, Queen of Scots, and her life at the French court. In spite of this, it's still an incredibly entertaining series filled with political intrigue, exciting romances, and thrilling adventures.

All of these were reasons why fans tuned in to enjoy Reign for four seasons - but there's another one! The show went above and beyond with their costumes, consistently mesmerizing the audience and making everyone wish they too could live in the realm of the show in order to experience those decadent designs. We take a look back and rank ten of the most stunning looks in Reign.

10 A Golden Queen

Queen Elizabeth I wasn't introduced into the show until later, representing the biggest nemesis Mary had faced thus far, and hellbent on keeping her from taking her crown. But politics aside, Elizabeth brought a brand new type of style to the show - the English charm that had been lacking.

This particular ensemble has to be one of the most stunning that ever made its way to Reign. Golden from head to toe with stunning patterns and feathered details, this dress was fit for the Queen of England only.

9 Black Chic

If there's one thing Mary did better than anyone else, it was challenging the conventions of her time and the things that were expected from her. And many times, this was showcased through her choice of clothing.

Form-fitting dresses weren't exactly a typical style in 16th century France, yet she went for it. And this black number, embroidered with a tree-like pattern, does a wonderful job presenting her as the leader she was born to be.

8 Nets Are In!

Who's to say you can't reimagine a net as part of a stunning silver dress fit for a royal Princess? Once again, Mary proves she's years ahead of her time by sporting this intricate dress.

The top and bottom shouldn't work this well together, and yet, here we are! Plus, the details of the tiara and heavy earrings just add to the overall royal look fans have come to associate with Mary.

7 16th Century Coachella

According to Reign, before women everywhere were adorning their hair with flowers during the 60s hippie movement and, later, during music festivals in the summer, Mary, Queen of Scots was already doing it before it was cool.

In all seriousness, though, this beautiful crown made of red roses makes for the perfect complement to this simple yet beautiful and elegant white lace dress that hugs her body in a lovely manner.

6 Blue, Gold & Silver

Mixing silver and gold together isn't usually a look many people tend to go for. However, in this particular episode, Mary once again disregarded any rules of the sort and gave us yet another iconic fashion moment.

The navy blue placates what could be a disastrous combination, and instead turns this look into one of a kind. The necklace, earrings, and tiara are the perfect complement to tie it all together.

5 Dancing Queen!

Mary's style suffered quite a drastic change once she left France and returned to her homeland of Scotland to rule. Now that she was officially a Queen and a ruler, her style became more serious and the color palettes more somber.

This, however, isn't at all a bad thing. And this gown, for instance, is clearly a lot more mature than previous things she's worn, while still keeping somewhat of a fun twist with the flower pattern.

4 The Most Wonderful Bride

Mary's first marriage to Francis also provided the audience with a very aesthetically pleasing gown, but her second wedding saw her sport a more elevated version of what a royal dress should look like.

Extremely intricate, with a veil worthy of being a museum piece, Mary's second attempt at marriage, whilst not a happy one, still lands a spot as one of the most stunning outfits on Reign.

3 Puffy Sleeves & Orange Tones

Mary always looked wonderful when she went for tight-fitting dresses, but her ballgown moments were just as breathtaking as the more elegant ones we've mentioned before.

This dress, for instance, has mary donning a puffier gown with a warm color palette that suits her complexion beautifully and is reminiscent of those lovely autumn days when summer is saying goodbye.

2 Fit For A Queen

History buffs will know that Queen Elizabeth I had dozens and dozens of dresses, and rarely - if ever - repeated an outfit. As a woman ruler, projecting a consistent image of power, wealth, and beauty was paramount in the 16rh century.

This opulent look is one of the best examples of the bunch. The blood-red color, paired with golden accents and expensive jewelry are, indeed, fit for a Queen - and the Queen of England, at that.

1 Red Velvet

Topping off this list is this charming look that Queen Mary bestowed upon the audiences, showing everyone that accessorizing was a thing, and quite a big one, event back in the 16th century.

Pairing a simple skirt with an intricate bodice and neckline already makes for a stunning gown. But the addition of the red velvet shawl elevates the look to new heights - Queen of Scotland heights!
