Riddle Slips Up And Mentions Banned WWE Word During An Interview

Riddle had a wee slip-up during a recent interview on The Bump. The former MMA star is now the proud holder of the United States Championship following his big win at the Elimination Chamber PPV, so he could be forgiven for being a bit excited.

The SmackDown performer uttered a banned WWE word during his chinwag and was quick to correct himself.

Having bested Bobby Lashley and John Morrison, he used the word "belt" while discussing his win.

“Bobby said I’m no punk, Bobby ain’t no punk either. You know, lucky for me I got this belt… or this Championship," he said (H/T Sportskeeda). "Oh no!" he added with a laugh. "This Championship off Bobby. And yeah, it’s great. I didn’t think I was going to be able to get it off him, to be honest, and for this to happen and to be in this situation, it’s epic. Epic.”

Several years ago, a WWE memo leaked and would reveal words such as "belt" and "strap" were banned, with commentators and superstars forbidden from saying them. Riddle having corrected himself is evidence the sanctions still exist within the company.

Riddle has since beaten Morrison in a one-vs-one match on Raw, getting his run as U.S Champion off to a great start.

There Are A few Exceptions

While Riddle was sure to correct himself on the back of his slip-up, there have been some exceptions where the word belt is concerned. Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks have both used it freely, with The Man calling herself "Becky 2 Belts" after her win over Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 35.

Banks was also dubbed "2 Beltz Banks" after she won the Raw Women's Championship and Women's Tag Team Championship last year.
