The Blackpool Combat Club May Be A Mistake With Bryan Danielson's AEW Booking

When Bryan Danielson debuted at AEW All Out last year, it felt like a moment that was going to change the landscape of professional wrestling. For the first time in years, it felt like WWE had a genuine contender, with AEW bringing in "The American Dragon", as well as superstars like CM Punk and Adam Cole within the space of a few weeks. Unfortunately, since then, Danielson's booking has left a lot to be desired.RELATED: The 10 Worst Debuts In AEW History

Bryan Danielson Started Off Brilliantly In AEW

It is safe to say that Danielson had an incredible first few months in AEW. The first match with Kenny Omega was spectacular and when it ended in a draw, most fans would have expected the two to meet again. That did not happen, as Omega moved on to a feud with Adam Page and ultimately lost the AEW World Championship to him.

Very soon, Danielson would find himself once again in the title picture though, as he got involved in a feud with Page. During this period of time, he was without doubt, the best heel in the entire business and arguably the best thing in wrestling. After running through several members of the Dark Order, he would get his shot at the World Championship against "Hangman". And this is where things started to go wrong.

AEW Booked Themselves Into A Corner With The Bryan Danielson Vs Adam Page Feud

It was simply too early for AEW to pit Danielson and Page against each other. On one hand, Page was fresh off of winning the title and losing it so early would have made him look incredibly weak. But then, Danielson was doing some of the best work of his career at that point of time and most probably deserved to be the AEW World Champion.

As a result, the feud was always going to derail the one of their momentum, and it turned out to be Danielson who came out on the losing side. The two had a spectacular one-hour draw in their first encounter before Page got the win and retained his title the second time that they met.

Bryan Danielson's Feud With Jon Moxley Did Not Work

On paper, it was a very good idea to get Danielson involved in a feud with Moxley. The two are without a doubt, two of the biggest stars that AEW has. It was a dream match for many fans. The execution did leave a bit to be desired though.

After coming off back-to-back programs with the World Champions, this feud just did not feel as important, and it was not a particularly long one either as soon, the two would unite to form the Blackpool Combat Club along with William Regal.

The Blackpool Combat Club Is Not Getting The Best Use Out of Bryan Danielson

The Blackpool Combat Club might be doing a pretty good job of getting Wheeler Yuta over, but it does not feel like it is the best use of Danielson at this stage of his career.

Just a few months ago, Danielson was the best heel in the business. It felt like some of the shackles had come off after leaving the WWE, and he was intent on showing that he was still the best professional wrestler on the planet. It was hard to argue with it either, as some of his work in the ring and on the mic, was exceptional.

Now, Danielson is part of a trio with Moxley and Yuta, participating in random 6-man tag matches. It is hard not to feel that AEW could be getting so much more out of Danielson than they are at the moment.

Bryan Danielson Should Be Having A Singles Run At The Top Of AEW

Bryan Danielson is arguably the biggest mainstream star that AEW have on their roster right now. If not, he is second to only CM Punk. At the moment though, he seems to be a bit lost in the middle of the card.

Similar to CM Punk, he should be involved in one big feud after the other at the top of the card, with some very intriguing potential opponents out there like MJF, Samoa Joe, Adam Cole and Punk himself!

At the end of the day, Danielson is 40 years of age, and he does not wrestle in a conservative style either. As a result, it is safe to say that he is in the twilight of his in-ring career and hopefully, AEW will put him back in the singles picture soon.
