The Brave & The Bold Is Already Avoiding DC's 2 Batmen Confusion
DC will have two different Batmen going forward, but the DCU’s The Brave and the Bold is already setting itself apart from The Batman - Part II.
The Brave and The Bold and The Batman - Part II mean that DC will have two different Batmen, yet the former is already avoiding possible confusion regarding the latter. Given that both James Gunn and Matt Reeves had confirmed that Robert Pattinson will not be the DCU’s Batman, it was no surprise to see a new Batman movie with no ties to The Batman announced for the new DC Universe. Still, two cinematic Batmen existing at the same time have never been done before.
While The Flash will see two different Batmen – Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton – they will be part of the same story thanks to the multiverse. The Batman - Part II is releasing on October 3, 2025, while The Brave and the Bold’s release date has yet to be announced. Regardless of when the DC Universe’s Batman movie premiers, it will surely be compared to The Batman on some level.
The Brave And The Bold Is Distancing Itself From The Batman
Just the fact that the DCU’s first Batman-related movie is called “The Brave and the Bold” already shows how this new Batman iteration will distance itself from The Batman and The Batman Part II. The title ‘The Brave and the Bold” comes from a comic book series that, after beginning as an anthology focused on characters from the past, became a “Batman and friends” run. The Brave and the Bold also served as the title for an animated series, which focused on Batman teaming up with other DC heroes in a show full of references to Batman’s Golden and Silver Ages.
Though nothing has been shown of The Brave and the Bold, the DCU Batman movie is expected to have a slightly lighter tone, as denoted by its title. In addition, the presence of Damian Wayne in what will be the first cinematic Robin since Chris O’Donnell in Batman & Robin also helps set this new Batman iteration from Matt Reeves’ The Batman. In fact, when it comes to The Brave and the Bold, the DC Universe slate presentation had more to say about Damian Wayne than about Batman himself. As such, while The Batman 2 can continue Bruce’s character study, The Brave and the Bold can showcase this father-son dynamic.
The Brave And The Bold Is Covering New Batman Ground On Screen
After The Batman, it is difficult to imagine that any of the Robins would fit in The Batman - Part 2. That is not because it can be difficult to nail Robin as a realistic character but mostly because The Batman was a Bruce Wayne-centered story. The Batman 2 is expected to continue with that approach, which leaves room for the DCU to explore other sides of the character. A father-son dynamic between Batman and Damian Wayne has never been done on the big screen, plus bringing Damian Wayne into live-action will set this new DC Universe apart from previous DC movie franchises right away.
In addition, Damian Wayne as Robin strongly suggests that other Robins and the Bat-Family already exist in the new DC Universe. Batman’s interactions with the Robins and the Bat-Family add a lot to the character, yet it is a significant part of DC Comics’ Batman lore that has never been brought into the big screen. That is not to mention the DC Universe crossover possibilities, with Bruce's Batman and Damian's Robin perhaps interacting with other DCU superheroes. By doing something that no Batman or DCEU movie has done before, The Brave and the Bold can justify the existence of two different cinematic Batmen at the same time.
