Undertaker Breaks Down His Biggest Fear During Infamous Goldust Moment
Ask almost anyone who the best character in wrestling is, and I'd hazard to guess 99 times out of 100 people will answer The Undertaker. However, if there is someone in second place, that someone is probably Goldust. Comfortably the best at embodying something they're not after The Deadman, the two of them clashed in a match featuring an infamous moment at In Your House: Beware Of Dog, and The Phenom has been telling all about how he felt during that moment.
The Deadman's One Fear
The match was one of the few times The Undertaker chased the Intercontinental Championship, a title that evaded him for his entire career. Since the match took place at a time when Dustin Rhodes was really leaning into the androgyny of the Goldust character, partway through the match, the Superstar grabbed the crotch of his opponent. Wanting to know how he felt at that moment, fans asked The Deadman about it during his Six Feet Under podcast (H/T to Fightful for the transcription).
Alright, you asked the question. I mean, I was just hoping I didn't become erect. He does have soft hands for a big man... That would have destroyed me. I would have been done.
A follow-up question asked if The Undertaker knew the spot was coming, to which The Phenom made a crude joke in reply. Sounds like he didn't know it was going to happen, and I can't imagine that sort of thing would fly in wrestling today, and with good reason. Grabbing the crotch of an opponent without them knowing would either be met with the match taking a more violent and unexpected turn, or at the very least a serious HR intervention.
Goldust In The Hall Of Fame
Who would have thought at the time that match was happening, that both men would continue to wrestle at a high level for decades, and one of them would still be wrestling today? Covering Goldust at length, The Undertaker spoke on his In Your House opponent deserving a spot in the WWE Hall of Fame. Hard to imagine anyone disagreeing with that, but it remains to be seen if WWE would be willing to induct someone while they're under contract with AEW.
Rhodes proved he's still got it at World's End last month in a losing effort to Swerve Strickland. There was talk of Rhodes potentially retiring after the match to which the wrestler replied he will never retire. While I'm not sure about never, having watched the Strickland match, there's no reason for him to hang up his boots yet if he doesn't want to.
