Vegas Odds Place Mahomes Above Rodgers, Brees, & Brady For NFL MVP

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is off to a blistering start, leading the team to a 3-0 start after compiling 896 passing yards and 13 touchdowns through the first three weeks.

Unsurprisingly, the second-year quarterback out of Texas Tech is the early favorite to win the MVP Award, even over future Hall of Famers and Super Bowl MVP quarterbacks like Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady and Drew Brees.

Mahomes has completed 66.7 percent of his passes, has yet to throw an interception and owns an impressive 91.7 quarterback rating. He sits ninth in passing yards, tops in touchdown passes and in rating (137.4).

The teams Mahomes have defeated are no slouches, either. He dropped the hammer in a road game vs. the Los Angeles Chargers - the pre-season favorites to win the AFC West - in Week 1 by a score of 38-28. A week later, Mahomes led the Chiefs to a 42-27 road win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, who had won three straight games vs. Kansas City.

Mahomes then squared off against fellow rising superstar quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and the San Francisco 49ers. The game was never a contest, however, as Mahomes paced Kansas City to a 38-27 victory.

Through three weeks, the Chiefs lead the league in scoring offense (39.3 points per game), are second in passing (295 per game), but just 15th in rushing offense, per ESPN.com. That's because reigning rushing leader Kareem Hunt hasn't been used as much, with Mahomes' arm leading the way completely.

It also helps Mahomes in that both Rodgers (playing through a knee injury), and Brady (struggling without much help from his receivers), are struggling early in the season. A lot can change over the next few weeks, but he's undoubtedly the early favorite to win the MVP after the Weeks 1-3 performances.

Things get tricky from the Chiefs from here on out, however. They visit the Denver Broncos in Week 4, host the powerhouse Jacksonville Jagaurs in Week 5 then visit the New England Patriots in Week 6. But after three impressive outings to kick off 2018, who's doubting Mahomes ability to lead his Chiefs to a potential 5-1 or 6-0 start? Nobody should at this point.
