Why Bianca Belair's Finisher Is Called The K.O.D., Explained

Quick Links

Professional wrestling has seen a number of iconic finishing moves over the decades. Every professional wrestler has one of these in their arsenal. It is that one maneuver that definitively finishes the match and brings the wrestler a victory. One of the most powerful finishers in WWE today is delivered by the one and only, Bianca Belair. The current RAW Women’s Champion uses a finisher called “The K.O.D.” The torture rack-facebuster combination has brought her numerous major victories throughout her career. The inspiration for its name also stems from two places. One is in reference to Belair’s kiss print gear that she wears. The other comes from an album made by J.Cole, one of hip-hop’s biggest names today.

J.Cole Helped Inspire Bianca Belair's Finisher

Belair has been very open about her love for J.Cole and his music. In an interview with Ryan Satin on Out of Character (h/t Fightful), she said, “It came from a J. Cole song, I'm a huge J. Cole fan…It's one of his songs.” The North Carolina rapper released K.O.D., which he explained in a Tweet stood for three things: “Kids on Drugs”, “”King Overdosed”, and “Kill Our Demons”, in 2018. It is his fifth studio album and featured tracks such as “ATM”, “Kevin’s Heart”, and “KOD.”

Bianca Belair's Kiss Print On Her Gear Also Inspired Her

In that same interview, Belair also explained that the inspiration for the name “K.O.D” stemmed from the famous kiss designs that she wears on her gear. She said, “It also came from because I wear kiss prints on my gear and that's my signature thing. When I thought about my finishing move, I was trying to think of phrases that had to do with kiss. 'Oh, Kiss of Death, KOD, perfect for the finish.' That's really where it came from and J. Cole solidified it.

It is also notable that Belair makes the iconic kiss print gear that she wears for each and every match. In a GQ interview, she said, “I call myself the ‘-est’ of WWE. I'm the strongest, the fastest, the roughest, the toughest, the quickest, the greatest, the best, and I want to do everything myself and I want to give 110 percent. That's not just me being a WWE superstar, but that's me training in the ring, that’s me working out, that’s me studying my promos, and that’s also me making my own gear.”

The Kiss Of Death Has Brought Bianca Belair A Lot Of Success

Belair’s “Kiss of Death” finisher has been greatly successful for her. In a relatively short amount of time, she has become one of the biggest stars in modern day WWE history. In 2021, she won the Women’s Royal Rumble match. From there she went on to defeat Mercedes Moné (formerly Sasha Banks in WWE) to win the SmackDown Women’s Title at WrestleMania 37 in the first night’s main event. In addition, she was also a part of long-term program with Becky Lynch, which saw her win the RAW Women’s Championship from her at WrestleMania 38 Night One.

Belair is still in the midst of her historic reign as RAW Women’s Champion. She has held the title for over a year and is the longest reigning Black champion in WWE history. During this run as champion, she has defeated countless challengers, such as Sonya Deville, Asuka, Becky Lynch, Carmella, Bayley, Alexa Bliss, and more. Based on how her career has been going thus far, there will only be more success coming in the future for Belair. She has truly shown that she is one of the very best of her generation in a very short amount of time. With so many accomplishments already, there are certainly more K.O.D.’s coming for her future opponents who wrestle WWE's EST.
