Wrestling Legends Scott Steiner & Hulk Hogan's Real Life Heat, Explained

Quick Links

Scott Steiner is never afraid to speak his mind. Upon his metamorphosis from a tag-team wrestler to Big Poppa Pump, Steiner regressed in terms of in-ring work but to compensate for this he developed an insane on-screen persona. Unfiltered and uncensored, Steiner rose to the top of WCW with his new shtick. Backstage, he was the same guy. One begins to wonder if Steiner was living his gimmick or was that his actual self?

Regardless, due to his outspoken personality, Steiner made a lot of enemies backstage. In addition to looking like a freak of nature, Scott was an accomplished amateur wrestler, and one of the strongest dudes around. If someone got on his bad side, whether it was DDP or even Ric Flair, Steiner carried the grudge and had no problem burying the unfortunate guy on live television. After all, who on earth was going to take his mic from him?

Scott Steiner Had Heat With More Than a Few Wrestlers In WCW

We all know his beef with DDP and his hatred of Flair, but there is one guy Steiner hates more than anyone else, and that guy is Hulk Hogan. Steiner and Hogan have worked together in a few companies. When the Steiner brothers debuted in WWE, Hogan was on the way out, onwards to WCW.

Steiner ended up in the Atlanta-based promotion shortly after, where they did work together from time to time with no problem. Hogan then oversaw the destruction of WCW and this is maybe where Steiner started disliking the guy. Sure, Russo and Bischoff played a part, but Hogan deserves a big chunk of the blame for the downfall of WCW as well.

Scott Steiner Warned Dixie Carter About Hulk Hogan In TNA

Both superstars worked in WWE after the demise of WCW and neither lasted very long. Hogan had another fall-out with Vince McMahon while Steiner left as he could not get along with Triple H. After WWE, Steiner joined TNA and despite being way past his prime, he did good work, mostly due to his insanely hilarious promo skills.

This peace lasted for a short time. However, as Hogan, alongside Eric Bischoff, were hired by Dixie Carter it was WCW all over again. Big Poppa Pump saw the writing on the wall, and according to Jeff Jarret, soon after Hogan was hired, Steiner approached Dixie Carter and warned her that Hogan would ruin the company. He would be proven right.

Steiner probably didn’t get along with the Hulkster too well backstage because he was released in 2012, a few years after the arrival of Hogan. Once Big Poppa Pump was out of the promotion, he started breathing fire on Twitter. In a series of blistering tweets, Steiner tore into Hogan for destroying TNA, much like he had done to WCW back in the day. He wrote a novel's worth of content, and given its Big Poppa Pump, not a single sentence can be reproduced here. Just know that he outdid every other shoot promo in the history of ever.

Hulk Hogan Later Claimed That Scott Steiner Threatened Him

Scott also made it clear that his issues were with Hogan and Bischoff, and not the company itself. He was trying to help and save TNA as he knew what Hogan would do to the company. And he was right. As soon as Hogan came over to TNA, he challenged Vince McMahon and WWE, and TNA was never the same again. After destroying what made TNA great, Hogan and Bischoff left the company. For some insane reason, Vince McMahon allowed Hogan another shot.

Hogan was slated to be a part of WrestleMania 31 week and allegedly, according to Hogan, Steiner approached Hogan’s wife, Jennifer, at an airport and told her that he would kill Hogan as soon as he got off the plane. This led to Hogan filing a police report against Steiner. When he was asked for comment, Scott replied that this was typical Hogan behavior, and then he called him a punk.

Steiner later clarified that he did not threaten Hogan’s life, but he did reiterate that he hated Hogan, and the fact that Hogan was the guy who inducted "Macho Man" Randy Savage into the Hall of Fame. No one truly knows what happened. Hogan said that he filed a police report, but Steiner claimed that he was never approached by the police in regard to that incident.

Still, Steiner hates Hogan like a mortal enemy. Over the years, Steiner has mellowed out. He recently accepted his WWE Hall of Fame induction and buried the hatchet with Triple H, but it is doubtful he will ever be Hogan’s friend.
