WWE's Rey Mysterio Injured

Reports have surfaced that Rey Mysterio might be dealing with a minor injury. Absent since taking on and losing to Gunther in an Intercontinental Championship Match, Mysterio hasn't been seen on SmackDown in a couple of weeks, but he was backstage nursing what appears to be a lower-body injury.

The news is noteworthy because other reports stated that Mysterio was scheduled to be part of the World Cup Tournament that is currently taking place on SmackDown. It's not clear who took his place in the tournament, but considering the format and the opening-round matchups, it probably wouldn't be too difficult to figure out a couple of places where the legendary luchador might have fit. Further to his missing the tournament, it appears that Mysterio will be off the road for a bit because of his injury.

Rey Mysterio returns to SmackDown

It doesn't sound like whatever the issue is should be considered serious, but he was seen backstage with a walking boot, according to Ringside News. It is being deemed a "short-term injury" via one source and it's not clear what caused the injury. The fact that he was able to make it to SmackDown is a good sign.

Mysterio Was On A Run

The hope is that he won't be away long. He was just moved to SmackDown as part of a storyline to get off of the same brand as his son Dominik and Rey was on a run since joining the blue brand. He didn't defeat Gunther, but he's still one of the most popular WWE Superstars on the roster and he's a big draw for the brand. He would have been a favorite in the World Cup Tournament and a rematch with The Ring General might have been a fun contest for fans.

We wish Rey Mysterio a speedy recovery and hope it is nothing more than a couple of weeks that he'll be missing.
